As soon as we get moved, I'm going to make the girls a C&C cage. I'm going with 2X4 and want to have fleece liners. I am planning to do fleece-quilt batting-fleece and go ahead and sew it all together. I will probably make about 4-5 of these and plan to just take it out and put a clean one in every day. So, my questions is, for those of you doing this, how big should the insert be? Since I don't have the cage built I don't have measurements, but I want to go ahead and get the inserts sewn so I'll have something to use when the cage is built. Thanks.

I went ahead and measured my bunnies cage. They both have a 2x4 cage right now. I would make them longer so that you can sew and fold abit at the end of the walls. The size cage is 56x27. So I would make all the materials 60x30. You can go to walmart and buy no sew fleece. You get 2 sheets for 10.74 rolled up. One sheet will do. Hope this helps. I have a giant cage for the piggies their cage is 85x65 is the girls cage and the boys is 72x54. In grids girls are 5x6 and the boys are 3x5.

Angel that is what I have. The fleece blanket kits. I love them and I put two more of them on layaway the other day so I would have more in case I need it. One panel was enough to cover the 2x4 plus the 1x4 loft. I just had to get a little extra fleece for the extra 1x2 attached to the side of the 2x4 on the bottom level.

I got one package but its not enough. But I went back to walmart and they had some fleece on for 2.74 a yard and I got 12 yards and I was able to get 3 panels for the girls and 4 panels for the boys. I am going to get more as soon as I get enough money.

for a two by 5 i got 2 1/2 yards of fabric so 2 yards would probably be enough for a 2X4

No sew fleece? Forgive me, but what is that exactly, and how does it work?

i think its blankets.

No-sew fleece had a uniform/complete pattern on both sides. Most fabrics/fleece have a complete pattern on only one side.

you get 2 sheets of them for 10.74 at walmart in the material section. Its rolled up and wraped in a clear plastic paper and it has a directions on there on how to make a knot blanket.

It's called a fleece blanket kit. I love them. Also Wal-Mart has $5 fleece blankets that are great for the cages too. They are thick and one blanket will line a 2x4 easily. They are 50"x60". I have one of those, two of the fleece blanket kits and also some fleece I purchased in the fabric department off the bolt. The only type of fleece I don't like is the t-shirt fleece. To me it is too thin and has to be changed every day or every other day.

VERY interesting. Okay, so another dumb question...if I make a "knot blanket" out of this, is it piggy safe? They won't be able to pull off the fringe, will they?

Can someone tell me how to make the "knot blanket" ?

And I'd like to know if it is piggy safe too...

The knotted blanket can be made like this:
(broken link removed).

There are plenty of pics there as well. I think the pigs would pull on the fringe though.

yeah they would. My piggies knows that there is newspaper under the fleece and they try to dig at the edge of the fleece.

does anyone have a picture of these new sew blankets? i'd like to see what it looks like...

I don't make a knotted blanket out of the fleece blanket kits. I just use each panel as a separate liner. Each piece of fleece measures 48"x60" and will fit a 3x4 nicely. If you have a smaller cage you can cut it down to size. I wouldn't worry about trying to make the "knot or fringe blanket" out of it. I buy it merely because it's large pieces of fleece for cheaper than what it would cost to buy the same amount of fleece from the bolt.
