I am having a friend pet sit for us and I'm trying to give options for bedding to make it easier for her and control the mess. The guys will be in their travel cage at her house, so I don't think fleece and absorbent layers will work. Can I put fleece over pine bedding and just have her shake out the fleece during play time?

I've never tried it over pine bedding, but I use it over pellets all the time. You'd have to change the pellets more often, and shake the fleece several times a day.

How about you use just the wood shavings without the fleece? She could spot clean every other day, and it'd be less work than fleece.

My piggies will try and eat pine shavings so I don't use them

Because my boys like to kick it out of the cage and I'm trying to control the mess and limit the amount of big work she has to do in changing the entire cage. How do u spot clean pine shavings?

Just use a small dust pan to scoop out the places where they potty the most. I do this once a day with my mice on Clean & Cozy and I've done the same with guinea pigs and other animals on traditional pet bedding.
