I am interested in fleece, i currently use shavings mixed with a bit of critter care which is like carefresh. When i saw the fleece flippers from the fleece store that is what made me really consider it. they seem super easy. i like how you can flip them over. you can sweep up the poos easily on it, and washing seems simple. does anyone have the fleece flippers? i know a lot of people have the Uhaul blankets as their absorbent layer and i heard great things of them which is another + to the fleece flippers.

One of my questions are what does everyone use to wash their fleece, the fleece store says you can use borax and i think i could probably find borax, not sure i havent really looked yet. a load of laundry once a week shouldnt be a problem. me and my fiance currently live with my parents but my mom seems to be pro reusable diapers so i think she understands its not a big deal to have that kind of stuff in the washer. I know i have to get the hay off the fleece and stuff before i wash. i wouldnt want that in my washer anyways.

They store says they pre wash the fleece once so whenever i get them i plan on doing 3 more washes but can i pre wash in cold water? or warm? i dont feel like wasting hot water when they are not soiled yet. i dont know if temperature helps the wicking action.

Any tips or advice would be great. i really wanna get away from the disposable bedding. my cage is a 2x5 with a 2x2 loft so it takes a lot of bedding.

The fleece flippers are a bit expensive especially with the shipping because i am Canadian so i wont be getting them right away. and i want two sets before i start using them so i can switch them out when they need to be washed.

Thanks :)

Here in the States you will look for a product called 20 Mule Team Borax.. It comes in a box and is normally located in the laundry Aisle by the laundry boosters and bleach. It is an all natural product. Many hospitals use it instead of bleach to disinfect.

To clean my fleeces, I use Borax in the wash water with 1/4 the recommended amount of free and clear detergent and 1 cup of vinegar in the rinse water. I use the warm or hot water cycle setting on my washer.

To prep fleece, The wash water needs to be as hot as you can get it to strip the "finishes" off of the fleece. This can take several washings & dryings. I do believe the Fleece Flippers are prewashed and the recommended washing at home is just to make sure nothing is transferred to your piggies.

You can put the vinegar in the spot where you'd put fabric softener (but don't use fabric softener on these) or you can just toss it in with the detergent.

Many different detergents have a "free and clear' version so you can get whatever you regularly use as this version.

I have "Fleece Flippers" but I made them myself. They are exactly like the ones on the site and really were not difficult to make. I have my grandmother's very old sewing machine and it was the first time I have sewn anything since Home-Ec in highschool 20 yrs ago! They are really easy to use and wash. I wash them once a week and sweep the poops off once a day. Because I have an upper kitchen with Carefresh and shavings they do most of their peeing and pooping up there. I wash the fleece in a tiny bit of detergent and vinigar. I have some Borax so I may start using that. I too live in Ontario and the shipping was just too much.

I have the flippers and never washed them before use. They are awesome and will wick better if you do wash them but I just changed them more often in the beginning. I do not use them with the coroplast though. I use them more as potty pads under my loft.
