I just found out that friends of mine got their daughter guinea pigs about three weeks ago from a flea market. Well, we went up there today just to see what they had. I was stunned. They had them in a 1 x 1 1/2 ft. plastic storage box... about 5 or 6 of them... NASTY water bowl. Then there were like 5 babies in another container! Oh my word. We left and Emily started getting teary eyed worrying about those babies. We live in Alabama, yes, it was a redneck trashy flea market. Can I turn them in to someone? Who? What organization?

I'd start with animal control in that area, but in reality I doubt they'll care much. That's just reality in certain parts of the country. At least you can call them and see what they say.

Thant's horrible! I don't really know where you can turn them in but I hope they are okay.

Definitely make some calls to a Humane Society, animal/vector control, or somebody else that was recommended.

I think that some action will be taken, because unlike actually established pet stores, a flea market probably doesn't have as good of a stance for legal action needing to be taken.

;)

Zuidy I hope you're right, but sometimes it's not about what's legal and what isn't. I originally lived in the Chicago area, and people there were concerned with animal welfare. We had great humane societies, no-kill shelters, etc.

Then I moved to Florida, and it was like going back in time in terms of animal welfare. It really depresses me, but the attitude is much more uncaring here. Laws are useless if no one will enforce them.
