I recently added a 2x2 upper level to my cage. I was planning on using carpet mats but i am haveing a lot of trouble finding them in stores. Does anyone know where i could get them.

anyone........

Well, if you can't find carpet mats, you can make them! Try going to a carpet store, and see if they have any pre-cut pieces the size you're looking for. If not, then just buy a bigger piece (they usually have some on rolls that they can cut for you) and when you get home, cut it to the size you would like. Or, if for some strange reason you've got extra carpet lying around your house (I used to =P) you can always cut it and use that...I've done this before, but obviously it won't work if you don't have a carpet specialty store in your area. Good luck!

Oh, and craft or fabric stores, or even department stores may have carpet for sale, too!

I will try going to like Home Depo or other stores. What happens if he pees on it? I didn't think he would go to the bathroom on the upper level but he has been spending most of him time up there and going to the bathroom a lot up there.

Okay, good luck. If he pees on it, you can wash it. Or, you can attempt to potty train him (my current goal).

Oh, if only you were here.. We have a LOT of extra carpet from putting down carpet in our basement... A huge roll that's probably 100-200 lbs! I use it constantly, making ramp bottoms and putting it over a bent grid to create privacy at all times, while they can still jump up there because the carpet it sturdy...

You can call carpet stores and see if they have any remnants they could give away. I've acquired lots of scraps that way and they are usually willing to help out if you explain it's for a critter cage. Most of the time they just throw them away anyway.

Yes, Ruby, me too! My whole home was carpeted, and we recently just pulled it all up because there are perfect wood floors underneath. I had a ton of carpet for quit a bit, but then my dad threw it before I could tell him to save it for my pig!

I thought that you couldn't wash carpet?

I believe a small bit of carpet can go in the wash just fine. If it is very large, make it into two sections so that it will fit in the washer better.

would a 2x2 area covered in carpet be too much to put in the wash? I thought that carpet had wool in it and that was why you couldn't put it in the wash. (Just what someone else told me, i could be wrong)

I don't mean to thread jack, but this is kinda related. Do you think that some sort of indoor/outdoor carpet would be okay in a piggy cage?

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me it would work. I don't know why indoor/outdoor carpet wouldn't work.

I was thinking of getting something like a bathroom mat. The onse with the rubber on the other side of it. Would that work?
