Grids Finally getting a bigger cage!!

Regarding the fleece, I finally figured out a way that worked a few days ago.

First, we soaked the fleece in hot water in the bath with some 7th generation dish soap for a few hours.
Then we put it in the washing machine, with (I think that this is what we used, I’ll confirm when I get home) one 'Vanish napisan power shots’ tablet thing, and some detergent I think (will check which one when I get home).
We used 90˚C water (it was the ’stain wash’), whereas before, the hottest we could figure out how to do was 60˚C. The water temperature definitely makes a difference!

I think that was what we did, I will check and confirm when I get home.

It took 1 soak and wash for my stripey fleece to be able to wick perfectly and just 1 wash and no soak for my green fleece.

After 1 soak and 1 wash (and about a million washes in the cooler water before that) my blue flowery fleece sort of wicks (water goes through but it takes about 10 seconds). There is probably some detergent residue left on it or something.

I guess it depends partly on the type of fleece and the inks used on it.

Would I be able to use a kitty litter box as a guinea pig kitchen?

I will be using a towel and some fleece for the kitchen. My pigs try to eat disposable bedding!!! Also I am going to figure out how to cut an entrance into the box without leaving a bunch of jagged edges or I will make a ramp

Sand the edges down really well after you cut it.

Just confirming what I said before, that was what we used.
The detergent was Earth Choice Laundry Liquid.

Grids just arrived!! My pigs will get a fleece forest because I thought that there would be 16 grids but there are actually 17!!!

This is the cage without the fleece. My pigs were being supervised at the time. I got a yard of my fleece to wick. I am getting the other fleece to wick today and will be putting it in tonight. I decided to go with a 4x4

Ok. So I have miscalculated. Instead of a 2x5 or 3x4 my pigs will get a 2x6 or 3x5 Which is even better!!!

Remember that when we say our cage is 2X5, we mean 2 grids, by 5 grids. It has nothing to do with the dimensions. Are you going to have an extra 2 grids on the ends of your cage or were you thinking it would be bigger because @bpatters said the grids were 14 inches instead of 12?

The cage looks great! My fleece wicked after about three washes.

You can also keep your eyes open for suitable grids on craigslist and in the garage sales. I found a set for 4 dollars in one.
