Figuring out sq. footage

I am sooo confused! I'm horrible at math(not really, but hey), and I get so confused trying to figure out sq. footage. So can someone help me out?

What's the sq. footage of a 3x3? A 4x6?

Can someone just help me on this? Lol.... Thanks.

A 3x3 is about 10.5 square feet and a 4x6 is about 25.5 square feet.

4 x 6=
(4 x 14") x (6 x 14")
=56" x 84"

OK, so maybe I don't get it....
So, I'm trying to get a 3x4. I got
(3x14)x(4x14)
right?
Then that comes out to
42"x56"
Then that comes out to
2352
Now what? Ah, I'm so confused!! Do you ALWAYS divide the # by 144?

Yes, because there are 144" in one square foot. So a 3x4 comes out to about 16 and 1/3 sq ft by my calculations.
