So, today I expanded my girls cage. Added another 2 x 3 onto their 2 x 6. Very excited about it! I saw that for 7 guinea pigs the recommended size would be about 23.5 sq ft and our cage is 23 with their little second story.
Under the top level all the girls like to run whenever its cuddle time or bath time or just floor time and it was very hard to reach them under the second level so I made a door so the area of the cage would be easily accessible. Wanted to see everyone's opinions and see if maybe I should change anything up?

Looks great!

Thanks! Took forever to get it right but I'm finally happy with it and the girls were all dashing about popcorning and wheaking their approval! :)

That's really cool! I don't think making any changes is neccessary...keep up the good work! :) P.S. What type of bedding r u using? Just curious :)

Thank you :) I'm using kiln dried pine for the bedding.

Uh oh...sorry to put a bump in the road but I've been reading on here that pine isn't good for the piggies. Try checking on the bedding section (on the home pagin the box on the top right corner) to see other options. It also tells you what you shouldnt use....including pine. Oh and I want to add that the bedding section doesn't say fleece anywhere but that is also a great choice for bedding. For more information on that read the posts in the FORUM's bedding section as there are numerous posts about it including one titled "The Fleece Project:The Study" -or something close to that- at the top. Please check this out because I don't want any piggies at risk :)

regular pine isn't good i think kiln dried is good though. My guinea pigs were on pine for a year until i switched to fleece a few weeks ago, and they are happy and healthy :}

WAIT!!!! DISREGARD EVERYTHING I JUST SAID!!!! I'm sorry I was wrong I got pine mixed up w/ cedar...cedar and corn cob are what your not supposed to use....sorry!

Pine is fine as long as it is kiln dried.

Love the cage! Its huge! You onky have 2 guinea pigs? They must be Very very happy! I've been eyeing my cage recently too but I don't think I can do any expanding until we move.

Looks great! I have one of my cages in the same place as the one on the floor. I have a patio door where your white door is. My double decker cage is to the right of where your door is. My pigs love their spots because they can see what's going on in the kitchen and they hear the fridge door open....you did a very impressive job!

Thanks Everyone! I've been meaning to expand for a few days! It's drives my boyfriend crazy lol! Ive been changing the cage lots lately! Just in this month this is the 6th time I have swapped it around! time to move to the boys the cage above and expand their cage!!! :D

Nice looking cage.

Wow, that's impressive!

Great cage! Good luck in keeping it like that because it's so hard not to redesign after seeing all these cages.

Well, I had to redesign since we left South dakota on the 28th and moved down here to South Dakota. We drove straight all the way through (it was really tough) we stopped twice for a two hour cat nap because we couldn't keep our eyes open and finally got the piggie cages set up again. Its basically the same setup but the boys cage is built ontop of the girls cage now and the cage has had to be dog proofed and it now has places for storage

Looks fabulous! You sure have some lucky piggies! Great job.

Your cage looks like a mansion compared to mine! I was worried for a second before I read to the bottom of the posts because I have been using pine in parts of my guinea pig's cage for almost 7 years!

Yeah, As long as the pine is kiln dried there isn't any reason to worry. I have tried the whole fleece route but my pigs' hated it! And I have 9 right now! But currently the girls' cage has remained the same size just now the boys' cage is on top.
But I want to thank everyone for taking a look at my cage! I worked hard to get it to where it is and it took me a WHILE to convince my boyfriend to let me expand the cage so much!

WOW. Excellent job, I love it ! It certainly is like a piggie palace ohhh your piggies must LOVE it !!! ( How many piggies do you have ?)

Thanks Kathlaaron! I currently have 9 piggies. 2 males and 7 females! :D Working on making the spare bedroom into just a piggy room lol
