since for some reason icannot post the article on here ill write it out.

The ottawa Huamne society has a case of overcrowding on its hands after by lwas seized more then 80 guinea pigs from a 1 one bedroom apartment on Monday morning. The Number is growing also as some odd 30 females were pregnant.Ontario society for the prevention of cruelty to animals inspector Miriam Smith called it a "Classic case of hoarding" after the ottawa health unit removed the mited infested animals frm crammed living conditions.More then 20 people called the humane society today wanted to adopt and or help the guinea pigs in anyway possible. The Furry Mammels are in good health besides the skin conditons and will be ready to adopt in 2-3 weeks of checkups, said Samantha Laprade,OHS outreach manager, who is asking prospective adopets and rescueers to call 613 725-3166 Ext 258 to sign up on a waiting list. The Public can help out in the mean time by donating Bedding, apples, carrots unopened bags of cavy food and cages.

I already have posted more then 200 signs all over ottawa and fostering 15-20 once the checkup is complete come on people we need your help.

Good luck with all the piggys. I dont know how someone can do that. I read somewhere that hording is a disease and that they are researching it to try to see of medicatin or therepy can help these people. I actualy fell kind of sorry for them. But i still dont understand how they could do this to animals that they supposedly loved. 30 pregnant pigs!Wow thats a lot of possible problems. I feel so sorry for them all.

Bye

well the OHS called me today 18 of the females gave birth last night and all were 4-7 showing that the females have given birth before :S.I think he wasnt hoarding rather eating them.So only 2 of the many babies died so i think thats pretty good concidering the pregnancie conditions.Ill keep everyone posted on the piggys :).

What was his ethnic back ground? I'm curious. You would think even if he was eating them that he would keep his food in better conditions than that? That's pretty discusting.

I had neighbors that were pig farmers that had the same conditions but with 300 pigs on 10 achers.. it was bad. At least your animal controle does something. The California Animal Control is usless. I have a bad case of animal neglect and abuse going on next door. I was even attaced by the dog on my property. They still did nothing.

Good for you for also noticing your local resources deficiencies. I have the same problem here in London Ontario. That is also another topic I am interested in opening up and discussing. The lack of effort that our largly funded Humane Societies and other org. are doing, or not doing rathar, for the animals that rely soley on these organizations. While so many other small and independant home based rescues, like those listed here, are recieving no help at all! The public has no idea that when they donate to the H.S.'s that there are so many things about some of them that are not credible of those donations. If anyone is interested in having this conversation, or discussing with one another what you can do in your town to shape up your local humanes and rescues, please feel free to open a new thread!

I'd love to talk to you more about it.!

I think that would be the greatest thing in the world for all of us to almost rebal against our governemnt and see how the animals are really treated.i hate that the cats here in ottawa in small little cages no bigger than a ****ing rodent cage. Also they stick all the guinea pigs together hamster etc.Certainly hammys cant be placed together after a certain age.its good you live close to me cause we can post things everywhere telling small rescues like ourselves to help eachother out and try and get us sponsers.Like come on the HS's are sponsered and scu kat animal care.Just becasue they have a vet degree if you dont love animals WTF's the point right.I opened a New thread near the bottom in News section please follow up whatever comes to your mind.

Just for your information the ottawa humane society doesn't stick guinea pigs all in one cage, they may stick 2 in a large cage. You have to remember that the humane society doesn't have thousands of cages for each guinea pig that comes in.And if it wasn't for hoarders the humane society wouldn't have this problem. Also if it wasn't for the humane society where would all the irresponsible pet owners dump their animals??? or come to look for them when they have lost them???

2 pregnant females due anytime and 15 males

i got the info fomr someone there why you ask.Cal lthem 725 3166 for fostering hit 255 for 251 for information

First of all you only saw the males out front whihc was still pretty bad.2-3 males in one 3 foot cage.Second the females in the back were even worst .How could you start something you dont know anything about. If something is sponsered by the governement they have the money for care.Wtf's the point knowing about C&C cages which is better economy wise and better for the health of the cavies and keep them in a small cage like that. And yes a couple people there know about C&C cages.I made a presentation all on it how its cheaper cleaner bigger and all that shit. And for your stupid smart remark about where would irresponsible pet owners dump their unwanted pets i know mnay places here to kanata that will take them in a snap.I cant even count the rescues i know in a 30 mile radius.Do reasearch before you start something twit.So Tell me how your helping out to stop hoarding and shelterless animals.Do you take strays in your home and fix them yourself Rather then bringing them to overcrowding HS's??????????

Now I know for a fact that you are not fostering 15 males. Now after all the stuff you have written about the humane society, do you think that they would want you to still foster the 2 possible pregnant gineau pigs you have?

I have seen all the gineau pigs at the humane society. The females were just fine, and they were taking great care of them. The humane society is doing all they can for the pigs, why do you think they are fostering so many. They could have euthanized them due to lack of space. Why don't you get mad at irresponible pet owners and not me or the humane society!! I foster many animals as well, so I am doing all I can to help the stray animals who are sick because owners don't vaccinate their animals.

The ottawa humane society is Not funded by the government. It relies on donations, and fundraising, it gets NO money from the government. The city gets any fees from animals that are brought in as strays and are reclaimed.
The humane society uses tthe money for shelter operation, paying staff, doing surgery on animals that come in injured, and many different other areas, example: foster program, humane education, companion animal program.I think you should do more research on how humane societies operate and where their money goes.

People like you need a life Bylaws came to my door and took them.Pretty Sad that you had ot go cry to them about a little spat on the internet.I really could care less because i doubt the females will make it through their pregnancie not alone in loud HS.You probably just cost 2 Cavies their life. And if you go back and tell them what i just said good for you because you dont care about animals.I think what the humane society is great for what they do but they can house the animals alot better then what they .I have others agreeing with me on here and all across toronto. We'll C ya

I hate that i was friggin editing my post a good long one and stupid 10 minute Rule.anyways im not gonna rewrite it again im gonna say Peace get a life and i wonder if you Work for the HS???????? Not answering to this thread anymore so no point of posting. If you really have a problem with what i said and not just creating problems Email me for Even meet me in person.
