So I'm participating in a cavy contest next month, and part of the contest is an "equipment and supplies identification" and the only details included are "including tools, grain, bedding etc." so I'd LOVE some help with any ideas on some supplies they might include. It's hard to think of things that aren't super simple like water bottles and such, I'm not sure how they're going to make it difficult. Supplies ideas?

I'd especially like some help with hay, telling the difference between timothy, alphalfa, and orchard grass. I'd love some pics if you have any, and chances are I'll have to write a bit about them so any info on the differences between the types of hey would be great.

Also, other than regular pellets, I'm not sure what types of grain they'd use. I did a similar contest with rabbits and they used corn kernels, rolled oats, and calf mana. Any ideas would appreciated!

Thanks so much! I'm lost on how to study for this :/

Alfalfa hay is used for pregnant sows and babies 6 months or younger. Timothy hay is for pigs older than 6 months.

Guinea pigs just need plain pellets. Guinea pigs dont and shouldn't be fed any type of grains.

I hope this helps.

I know they shouldn't be fed other types of grain, I was just giving examples. But thanks about the hay. It's something about calcium right? Alfalf has more calcium?

Yes alfalfa has more vitamin c which growing pigs need.

Alfalfa is a legume hay, the same as a pea is a legume. It provides calcium for bones and teeth growth, but doesn't wear down teeth. Long strand grass hays wear down teeth, and aid digestion etc.

Alfalfa hay has nothing to do with vitamin C (I think @Starthecavy123 meant calcium). Piggies need long strand hay (timothy, orchard, bluegrass) all the time and if you have piggies under 6 months you mix in some alfalfa hay for extra calcium.

They need pellets and veggies with vitamin C, and some people use a vitamin C supplement (not the drops in the water, those don't work).

You could list the safe veggies for them to eat, I would feel horrible if I ran out of veggies for Ferb. Also cage size requirements and that they need hideys.

Yes sorry I meant calcium. I get the two mixed up.
