Hello, I’m new here so I am a bit confused and I just want to say these are my boyfriends guinea pigs, i have two of my own but we are just confused in the matter. He adopted 3/3/23 a guinea pig really tiny and about 2 months old by her previous owner who was neglecting and starving her. As he loves animals, he has done research about guinea pigs and taken classes about veterinary science and small animal care and provided everything she would need. Her name is eevee (sow) , he got really close to her and so did she, he would give her time and space for her to bond with him and she did, she would squeak everytime he would come in the room, run around when he had food in his hands. He was working on bonding with her to bring her a new guinea pig asap so she wouldn’t feel lonley, last week 3/19/23 we adopted canelita (sow) from petco she was a bit bigger than eevee and he gave them a new space, bonded with her and tried different methods on to get them to bond together, they would both bite each other but nothing to extreme. They were bonding even by sleeping together in their hut and canelita was even popcorning. Well this morning 3/26/23 , my bf woke up to seeing eevee laying down dead, and he checked her and saw a wound on her neck. Sad to say that my boyfriend is very sensitive and eevee was his little person as he saved her from a horrible owner and they both really had a connection. He wants to return canelita, as him losing his lil partner in crime, he doesn’t want any more guinea pigs. We are both heartbroken as eevee was our daughter, we spent over 300 on food and hideouts for her and canelita. I just hope eevee decides to visit him as he loves her a lot, rest in peace eevee, cross the rainbow bridge as your dad will always remember you and your cute squeaks. I'm very sorry that happened. Usually two sows will get along well together, but much of it depends on how they're introduced. If you ever do it again, read https://www.guinealynx.info/introductions.html first.

Occasionally, you'll find a sow that just won't get along with another pig. But that's normally a case of the sow hating the other pig every time the other one is in sight, not sleeping together.

But please surrender her to a guinea pig rescue or shelter if there's one near you, rather than returning her to Petco.

I’m very sorry for you loss, she was a beautiful piggie and is displaying the prettiness around the rainbow bridge ….
