As of May 2008 anyone who sells on ebay will no longer be allowed to leave negative or neutral feedback. This means that if you have a buyer who doesn't pay, you can't leave a negative. You have a buyer that becomes abusive and make demands on you (I've had this happen and I only sell the odd thing a couple of times a year) and you can't leave a negative. A buyer deliberately damages an item on receipt or even swaps it with their own, broken version (this happens regularly) and claims it was damaged in the post, you can't leave a negative.

I hardly sell anything on ebay but I'm quite shocked!

Total rubbish, this is goiing to be a great system, eh? I have just bought a load of "family guy baby stewie" badgies off of there so I am glad I did sooner rather then later lol

So the slight risk of E-bay has now just multiplied quite dramatically - wonderful!

I remember my mum brought a book from E-bay and she sent the money and got no book in return, she contacted PayPal and the man refused to show a reciept to show it had been mailed. She never got the book, luckerly she was able to leave him negative feedback but she got it in return and he was very rude, calling her a thief :S

I have been selling on eBay since the beginning (over 10 years) and this has to be the worst thing they have ever dreamed up. They might as well throw the whole feedback system out the window. eBay continuously alienates its sellers. I am just fed up with their bias !!

I cannot think of any good feedback system they could use. I know usually I don't leave negs even when deserved for fear of getting one back. I'm sure most other people are like this at least to some extent.

Edit: I just read through the link and I think the new system is better. Buyer feedback is more important than seller feedback and even if you sell you can still leave feedback as a buyer.

NOT TRUE !!

Here are some of the reasons buyers leave negatives (actual verifiable feedback left):

The item did not arrive in a timely manner (even though the buyer only paid for media mail which takes up to 10 working days to arrive).

I changed my mind about buying this.

I had an accident and can't afford this.

The used cigar box you sold me smells like tobacco.

I didn't mean to bid, cat was on my lap & started messing with the mouse!

I found another one cheaper.

Maybe you did not realize that if the bidder does not pay the seller still has to pay for the listing fees, credit is only given for the final value fees.

In all the years I have been selling and buying on eBay I have only had a seller screw me twice but have had countless bidders never send payment !!

It's fine for the buyers but I think ebay are missing the point that their profits come from fees which sellers pay. If sellers don't sell (which many will choose not to after this) then there will be no fees. The sellers are, in effect, ebay's customers.

It's the retaliatory feedbackers (buyers AND sellers) that need to be dealt with as well as the scammer sellers. Good, honest sellers will be the ones to lose out here to scamming and scheming buyers.

Sometimes the sellers are at fault too. Buyers should be able to leave feedback. I bought something a few weeks ago. The seller put in a payment dispute after only 2 days. It was the week of Christmas. I told her I would be mailing a money order, from Toronto Canada to Ohio, in the week of Christmas, and she puts a strike against me after 2 days, like be real lady. It took a little over a week for the money order to get to her, she sent me an email saying she got it, but never let ebay know. I had to dispute the strike myself, they finnaly did take it off. Some sellers are ridiculous.

Buyers will still be able to leave negative feedback! Only sellers are affected by the rule.

I have only bought on ebay and have only received 1 negative feedback and that was a retaliatory one. I bought a game that I had had as a child and it was listed as complete and when I received it it was obviously not complete and I tried contacting the seller for over a week and never received a reply. After almost 2 weeks I finally gave her negative feedback. So she left one for me as well. I asked her why I got negative since I paid for the item immediately after winning the bid. She said it was because I left her a negative and that was the way it worked.

I bought some guinea pig cozy beds on Ebay and the measurements gave were the size of the ones I currently use. When I got them they were much smaller than the measurements advertised. I emailed seller and they never got back to me. I didn't want to leave negative feedback because even though I paid immediately they would probably leave me negative as well. Needless to say, my mice have a new cozy bed to sleep in.

My mom doesn't even bother with negative comments, because the first time she was going to leave one, the guy left a negative comment about her, so they compromised and both withdrew their comments, and she never bothers any more.

Uh... you can't actually file an unpaid item dispute until a week has elapsed so I don't know how you could get a strike after 2 days? It's been this way since ebay began.

Well she sent me an email after only two days and told me she was filling and unpaid dispute. Then she kept sending me emails reminding me to pay, everyday. Then when I got the email from ebay it could have been a week by now, then after about 9 - 10 days max, I get an email from her that she got the money order. I had to deal with ebay about it and give them a copy of the email she sent me saying she got the payment. She wasn't even kind enough to drop the dispute.

A seller like the one piggly wiggly had to deal with deserves a negative feedback and the buyer will still be able to leave one. On the flip side, if piggly wiggly had not paid, the seller has NO recourse! Pretty one-sided if you ask me.

I think if anyone uses ebay to buy or sell, they should be prepared for trouble. I don't use it anymore. Like said above, the seller has no recourse, but neither does the buyer. My dad buys alot on ebay, a few items he has paid for an item and not recieved it. You can only argue with people for so long, he always pays by money order. So he has written those off. He still uses it with a buyer beware attitude. I have only bought a few items from there, but will never use it again. I guess ebay for the most part works well, but the few bad apples make it hard to go back. This can be said for both buyers and sellers.

I am in agreement with you daft, one of the earlier posts said that buyers need to have recourse and I was trying to explain that they will but sellers will not.
