My one young sow has the craziest hair! I'm just wondering if anyone else has an Abbyruvian and if you need to trim their hair?

When I got her she looked like a normal Abyssinian

This is Penelope when she was 7 weeks old. Her fur wasn't really long and I assumed she would be an Abby like her cagemate Olive.

I would love to see what her father looks like. I got her from a woman on Kijiji who saved a pregnant pig from a farm up north. Her mom was smooth haired and mostly white with a little bit of dark brown but her 3 pups all came out like Penelope!

So fast-forward to today, she is just over 15 weeks old and has absolutely wacky hair.

Her fur is so strange, it is very thick and as you can see, long on her back end. The front of her hasn't grown but the back of her doesn't seem to stop!

I'm thinking that her fur probably won't stop growing but I'm hesitant to trim her because I am afraid I'll screw it up and she will look ridiculous forever :p

So I am just wondering if anyone has an Abbyruvian similar to her and if you trim their fur?

She's gorgeous! If it starts getting in the way, dragging on the ground, and getting dirty, you might need to trim it. Don't worry about how it looks when you first cut it, it will always grow back.

I would trim the hair if she is heating up. I've heard of some folks cutting the hair short to help them keep cool in the summer. I have a short haired pig and she can still get hot, much less if she had long hair.

I'll definitely trim it if it starts getting dirty but she's all good for now! Same with the heat, thankfully my parents decided to turn on the A/C so where their cages stay gets to about 72 maybe 75 if it is a really hot day so they are all good :) She's so unique, I've honestly never seen another pig like her!

She's beautiful! She looks like a guinea pig movie star to me lol. You could trim her certain parts of her to keep her cleaner and cooler like Artista said. Ive never seen a pig like that! So cute!

My boy Chewie (see attached) has very similar hair (we sometimes call him "chewster" because of his rooster tail).

I haven't done much trimming for him, mostly because it tends to grow more up than drag on the ground. However, there have been a few boar-glue incidents that have forced me to give him a trim.

Haircuts are never for forever -- it'll grow back quickly. I have an abbyruvian like that, and I cut her skirts regularly, and the rest of her as I take a notion. She always looks like she's been run through a weed-whacker by the time I get through.

She is so pretty and unique; she has an abby front and an abbyruvian back! My two abbyruvians look more like abbys, but one of them has a couple long rooster tail hairs.

My Abruvian, Tony, does not need his hair trimmed. It's short in all the right spots!

Your guys Abbyruvian's are adorable! I'm just going to leave her fur for now and only give a trim is necessary. She looks hilarious and is always a conversation started when people come over and see her lounging around :p

OMG, how cute is all that??? im curious. My crested male got out a while back and got my Peruvian pregnant. Mom is black and white peruvian, dad is a tri crested. I got an abby, grey and white baby with pink eyes!!!! Talk about family genes huh??? He is only 5 weeks tomorrow and hes little bum hair is looking like it wants to get long. Im so curious to see what else happens with him, he is such a little mutt. Not at all what I thought I would get for a baby.

My two new (to me) girlies are truly Heinz 57 mixes - one is Abby up front but has some very long wisps on her hind end. The other sister is a smooth hair piggy, with long wisps too! Very cute and makes them even more unique, in my mind, and even cuter, if that were possible (all piggies are cute!)

Damon's face is full on Abby. He also has 6 rosettes. His mother was a pregnant rescue I took in and I guarantee you she was full Aby.

When I got my boy Theodore the lady who was re-homing him said she original bought him from a show breeder as a sheba. He had a butt haircut a few weeks ago, his fur only grows long enough to just touch the floor, never any longer (even if I don't trim it) which I have found by researching sheba is typical of that coat type.

I also have this girl called Elenora, her mother (a normal abby called Sally) came to me pregnant and gave birth to a litter of four I ended up keeping Elenora and her brother Sebastian and re-homing the other babies. Elenora was the only abby in the litter and the only one that ended up as a long hair. Here are three pics of her, one when she was about 4 weeks old and two of her now that she is a year old.

This is the first time I have seen piggies like this. They are so flipping cute!

Not sure what exactly mixed together to make my boys. Their coats are to long to be crested but to short to be cornet. Just like the ones here the hair gets longer the further back on their body you go.

sallyvh my piggy Sebastian looks just like the Sow in your picture! Just different coat colour, and his coat is a tas shorter. I thought he was an Abby too until he got a a little older haha. Now I am possitive he is an Abyssinian/Peruvian mix :)
