my mom said that i cant have a guinea pig untill we move becuz she doesnt want to tell the landloard how many pets we have i only have a bird and a small dog do you think a caged animals will make a diffrence?
does any one liz in apartments and did they have a problem with a lil sweet piggy, we are probley going to move into a house so i dont see the problem can some one help ?
"im dying to have a piggy now"

First off, you'll need two. See www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm.

Secondly, please adopt.

Other than that, they are a ton of work--more than a dog or cat. Will you have enough room for the cage, hay, food, toys, and supplies, etc.? Please think long and hard before deciding to get one. Their lifespan is about 5-8 years, so I hope you're prepared for that type of a commitment.

I live in an apartment with a piggy and they couldnt care less. They don't really count it as a pet unless it can stain the carpet most of the time. You might want to check but ive lived in apartments my whole life and ive had piggies in most of them!

yes I am, I have been thinking about it sence this summer. and the cage would be in my room.

Ok, just making sure, not to mean offense or anything. Are you going to adopt if you can?

Oh, and make sure that everything is ready before you get them.

yah thats what i thought that it dosent really count cuz its a caged animal

you didnt affend me mncavylover, yah i am going to adopt, me and my friend are going to set up the cage before i get one i have most of the supplies but the food

make sure to get the right food timothy based for older pigs and alfalfa based
for younger ones.

Ok, I'm glad to hear it! =)

Yes, as dagwell said, get Cavy Performance for pigs under a year and Cavy Cuisine for those older. They're both made by oxbow ((broken link removed)). Hope it all goes well!

we live in apt too and we have them the landlord dont even count them as pets i dont think cause she said it was no big deal . good luck

I live in a 2bedroom apt And got 20 piggies, a dog, 2 bunnies, and buch of fishies. Also one of our piggies is pregenant and i have no clue how. It is accidental though. I think before we put coroplast up between the boys and girls divider and some how she got pregnant through the cage cube.

It really depends on the manager and the apartment policy. Some are more strict than others. The apartment building we were living had an official 'no pets' policy, but the manager said (unofficially) it's ok to have a cat as long as it doesn't cause problems.
Mainly they're worried about smells and stains and noise etc. so a guinea pig shouldn't be of big concern. Although it's good for you to find out what's allowed in your apartment.

The only problem you will have is if the manager needs to come into your apartment to fix something. You can cover the cage with a sheet to hide the cage.

You said you might be moving into a house from an apartment? A word of advice from someone who just moved (this week) from an apartment into a house. If you're not living on the ground floor, make sure you build the cage so you can get it out if you move in the future (!) My cage is a 2x4 with an upper deck and although it just (barely) fit through the doorways, we couldn't get it around the bend in the hallway and had to lift it over the balcony to get it out (!) Luckily we were on the ground floor, but if you're not, things might get tricky. So if you build a cage, make sure it is at least easy to take apart if necessary. ;)

If you're going to have pets while you're renting, get them written in to the contract, or get written permission first. It's all very well taking an unofficial go ahead and getting pets, but if things change and the landlord says you can't have them, then what do you do? Personally I'd move, but that's not possible for everyone and that's not fair on the pets.

My landlord has no problems with pets in a cage or C&C as we call it. He has problems with dogs and cats. We have one dog and he knows that and it is in the least. We had 2 and he didnt know that we had 2 and we decided to give her to a good home. He knows that we have 2 bunnies. Also my neighbors downstairs has a ferret.
