My poor Chester had such long floppy hair that it covered his face and his hay got stuck in the hair on his back end along with the other things trying to pass that area (ick). I had to give him a new-do and cut his back end hair. Has anyone else run into the same issue? I dont mind, he looks cute with his layered do now.

I know plenty of people with longhaireds who trim them, especially in summer. They've only been bred with long hair by humans, it's not a 'natural' state for them and they are usually much more comfortable without tripping over their hair, getting bedding and droppings stuck in it, and having it soaked with urine. Not to mention the fact they can get a bit overheated in warm weather, and it gets so knotted. Even the pigs who enjoy a nice groom don't enjoy having the knots combed out.

So carry on cutting! You sound like a far better piggy hairdresser than I am!

I trim the hair that hangs over my oldest pigs bum...for some reason it grows longer than the rest of her fur and tends to get yucky. She doesnt seem to mind...and it looks ok.

All five of my pigs have long hair. I usualy just cut their bums because thats all that gets dirty. If it gets so long that they have trouble walking I cut it all shorter. I also layer their hair on top to help them stay cooler. I dont have to do this with two of my girls though. They cut the top of their own hair! It doesnt bother me though. As long as their happy and health they can keep barbring each other. Their own doos are kind of cute. They usualy need a hair cut every few months depending on tthe pig and how short I cut it last time.
