I was doing a video of my girls last night as I thought it was cute that they were chasing each other around and rumbling etc...no nipping, charging, yawning, etc...but then out of the blue, Charlie (our baby) mounted Caramel just for a few seconds but still had me alarmed enough that I stopped the video, opened the cage, took Charlie out and did another sex check and she still looks female to me...she is a squirmer so it's hard to get her to stay still long enough to do the pressing down...so just asking if sows can show dominance by mounting??? please please please let this be so...if not then I was wrong with my sexing her at the beginning when I thought my neighbours had a girl with their boys! and now I've run the risk of throwing a boy in with my three girls....oh wow...I hope I wasn't wrong...

Yes females can display dominance by mounting. If you're still nervous about the possibility of the sow actually being a boar, I would separate the pigs then I would get with a cavy savvy vet that can sex the pig regardless of the squirmies, that way you can rest at ease. :) good luck!

My dominant piggy also sprays which is VERY annoying. >( I love her dearly but the pee splatters up my wall are really hard to clean. The little stinker! LOL lol

Yup, they tend to do that as well. Mounting and spraying are all part of the dominance/territorial war. It should settle down in a very short period of time. Is she still strutting her stuff?

I have five lady pigs, and they'll mount each other from time to time. None of them have ever sprayed, though. FWIW, they're all intact, and their ages range from 6 months to 7 years.
