I have one out of six who closes her eyes when she sleeps. I think it is so cute, since none of my others do.
I have a friend who also has one or two who do. As a matter of fact she recently put in a tiny doggie bed in her girl cage and has noticed another one who now closes her eyes.
Our girl closes her eyes when she's in our lap. She just stretches out, rolls over so we can get to her belly, and closes her eyes. I've never seen our boy sleep, seems like he's always awake.
When Sasha's up in my arms, her eyes never close but I can notice how she kind of changes her breathing..she almosts snores. Thats why I wondered if they slept with their eyes open.
Yes they can sleep with thier eyes open, as prey animals they have this "talent". Some people think that they will close their eyes IF they feel safe enough. To be honest i haven't a clue. Silky will sleep eyes closed on my lap, but Cleo won't (that i've seen). Each piggie has it's own personality, likes, dislikes ect. Over time you will come to know yours.
Yep, guinea pigs can sleep with their eyes open. Phoebe will do both. When she's out in the open she sleeps with her eyes open. But when she's in her hammock or on my lap she'll close her eyes. It's so cute because she'll start to wiggle her ears too.
Most of mine sleep with thir eyes closed if they think I'm not looking. My calmest pig will lay right out in the open and fall alseep with her eyes closed. But she never really sleeps in hidey houses for fear that Sakura will kick her out.
I know Peanut will close his eyes. In fact, he just lays on his side, flat out in the open, eyes closed, one leg sticking up snoozing away. But then he doesn't seem worried about ANYTHING!
Butter, though, never does. Moe and Elvis, I'm not sure about.
Pigs who are very comfortable with their surroundings and with their slaves will sleep with their eyes closed. All my pigs with once exception (Moppy) sleep with theirs closed.
I seen my guinea pig with its eye closed for the first time last night!!!!! It was later in the night, and he was cuddled down and closed his eyes...it was adorable.
