do females usually get along with all other females? What happens f you get one female, then get her a cagemate, and they hate each other?

Do they *usually* get along? Sure, they're usually quite happy to have a friend to play with. Do they *always* get along? Definitely not! They may fight and try to decide who the dominant pig will be... after which they may decide to agree, or they may continue fighting. Same with male-male.

If they continue to fight, then they need to be separated. This doesn't necessarily mean two separate cages - often just putting more grids down the middle of the existing cage will be enough. I've had to do this before, and it works well - they can still have another guinea pig to talk to, but they won't hurt each other if one of them gets in the other's way.

Mine tend to squabble and bite at each other quite a bit, but I'm not sure if they need to be separated. How is it best to decide? They do not cuddle anymore. My husband had to build a barrier in they hidey-hole so they would have separate rooms and they sometimes "fight" over food and hay. Any suggesstions?

It depends on personality and how they are introduced. Be sure to read www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm for more information about the introductions. You have to keep them seperate for three weeks before you introduce them, also, just as a quarantine period. If they don't get along, you will probably have to have two separate areas for them. It's best if you can make a large cage, 2x5 or 2x6, and divide it with grids. That way, they're still with each other, but they won't be able to fight. Another option is to keep them seperate and get each of them a new buddy, although this would take more room. I hope everything goes well! =)
