Do piggies understans height? Like when I'm holding Missy Piggy on the couch and che runs up my chest and across my shoulders onto the back or the arm of the couch, do I have to worry about her falling? Like will she just walk off the edge assuming that what she sees below isn't that far away? Do you get what I mean?

I dont think it really matters whether they know heights or not. If they are startled they will run anywhere. I dont think they are going to stop and think will I get hurt if I dart off the couch. They just go. My hand is always near by when I have my piggies on my lap on my bed just in case they decide to dart off and jump off the bed. You never know.

True enough! I do still keep my hands near her for that "just in case" moment. It's just one of those crazy thoughts you think of...

Guinea pigs have wide angle vision, but poor depth perception. Therefore, they cannnot judge height well.

Depth perception is more useful for predators (hunting prey) while the pigs' wide angle vision helps protect them from predators (identifying predators).

And boy have I had alot of crazy thoughts. This site can somtimes put those thoughts into your head. Don't get me wrong, I like this site very much, but sometimes by reading all these posts we start to question everything we do and then we dont get to enjoy our piggies as much. I think it has taken me 3 months to relax and be able to actually sit back and enjoy them. In the beginning, every scratch, every wheek, every move they made, made me jump. Always checking to see how they are. Now finally I can read these posts and enjoy them and just pick out those helpful hints and stop questioning everything I did. Hope you understood all that.

Yup, just let your pigs be pigs.

Just watch out for the warning signs as listed here:

https://www.guinealynx.info/emergencymedicalguide.html

Many of these warnings signs are signs of illness in any pet, not only guinea pigs.

Chad, I SO know what you mean..Although, i am much more relaxed about it now. But when i was new with my piggies, i was deffinately nervous something could be wrong.
