I have heard about piggies whose incisers and molars have overgrown, but how can you check whether your pigs' teeth are not too long?

The front ones I can just about manage to peek at, but how on earth do you check the molars?

What are the signs of overgrown molars (i.e. how can you tell without actually opening their mouth and looking)?

Has anybody had the experience of a piggy with dental problems?

Any replies would be appreciated!

Loss of weight, trouble eating like dropping food out of their mouth, drooling, refusal to eat certain foods, eating slowly are some signs of teeth problems.

You usually need tools to see into the back or a very calm, willing piggie. Sometimes you need x-rays. Give them plenty of hay to chew. They'll usually be fine, but some think maloclussion (sp?) is genetic.

Rabbitsncavyluv pretty much has it on the signs of dental problems. I personally, have never had dental problems with my guys. A tooth trim isn't fun.
