General Decorating food/water dish?

I've been looking for a cute pink food bowl and am not having luck, the ones I have found or too large or too deep. So, I found a Martha Stewart article on decorating a dog bowl and I figured I could do it for it with the gp's bowl but am worried about using the wrong paint or it flaking, should I skip it or try it out?

In my experience, guineas love to chew, so I would be worried about them chewing on the food dish and eating the paint. Once one of mine discovers that something in her cage will peel or crack or flake or can be eaten once she takes an experimental bite on it, it's all over for whatever that thing happens to be. So, I would wait until I found something that is naturally pink and that I wouldn't have to paint, or settle for another color. But maybe yours don't chew as much as mine. I agree with Frapplove, all paint has a small risk of toxins in the paint even if the paint is "non-toxic". I am sure the paint would flake off. I am not sure where you are from but there is many small cat dishes that are pink at PetSmart as I was just looking at them the other day because I bought a new cat bed for my cat (which is now in the guinea pig cage). My poor kitty never gets anything new
