I'm a brand new cavy momma... Brand new as in 4 days... I did lots of research before I agreed to adopting my boys, but I don't have any other cavy-savvy people to talk to.

I have 2 boys who LOVE to flip over food bowls. I know that I can probably find better or heavier duty food bowls. One of them is a plastic (cat food style) dish that came with my oldest boy and the other is a small ceramic bowl that I found at Petsmart in a pinch.

Any recommendations from more experiences piggy parents?

The best thing I ever found was hand soap dishes with a flared bottom. Mine were never able to flip them over.

I usually say ceramic bowls, but those didn't work for you... You must have some really strong piggies! Haha. I used to use a bowl that had sides that stuck out, kind of hard to explain, but you get the point. (I hope :) )

Any preferences on material for those dishes?

I wonder if my problems are coming from where my dishes are in the cage. I have a 2x3 C&C Cage with a kitchen area. The kitchen has aspen shavings, the food bowls, hay, and a water bottle.

Could the shavings make the bowls easier to flip?

I am yet to find a good pellet bowl. My one picks up the small ceramic one and will throw it or drag it around. I've tried a few different things and the same pig always flips it regardless, so I have just accepted that she likes to throw her pellets around and eat them off the ground.

I know for pellets I was recommended one of these:

I didn't purchase mine from the market but found one locally, It didn't work for my girls but it is more difficult to flip than others.

For veggies I found these bowls at petsmart:

My petsmart carries many different patterns of these ceramic bowls and they work amazing for vegetables. They sides aren't too high for them to get food out of but they are high enough that they won't sit in them. They are also heavy so I haven't had issues with my girl pulling it around.

My rabbits all have 2 of these and one of my guinea pig cages and I have no problem with them.

The wider ones are more stable but even the taller ones my animals just shove around a bit without flipping. I get them for a couple bucks from the feed store.

You can get various quick lock bowls if you have a place to attach them within reach of the pigs http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=6067+10382+17259&pcatid=17259
