I have a few questions, I dont need a big long list of veggies, cos I know what they can eat. Its more about how much.

Ok so I need to know what veggies my piggies can have basically daily without them eating kidney stones, or mouth sores etc.

In my fridge we nearly always have celery, cucumber, carrot, apple and most of the time red pepper. They occasionally get grass (if I have time to pick it) which they go crazy for, parsley and spinach.

They get fed twice a day. Usually with a mix of 2 or 3 veggies. Eg. carrot, celery and red pepper. They get carrot 2-3 times a week and apple once or twice a week. Is this ok? I make sure they dont get the same thing in a row as I believe that variety is important to their diet.

What else can I give basically daily that wont do damage? I've heard about romaine lettuce, but I've never found it at the supermarket. Does anyone has a pic of it? Or know any other good lettuces that are easy to find?

Merci :)

I'm surprised your supermarket doesn't have romaine lettuce. I would check again. Its very popular. What about in a bag? Sometimes they are packaged in bags as Romaine hearts. Romaine lettuce is used for Ceasar Salads. Sometimes they are packaged in a bag that says Ceasar Salad. Red leaf lettuce is also good. Kale twice a week. Check to see if your store has a bag of mixed greens. You can add to the list, oranges, mine love it. I give it 1 - 2 times a week. Any color sweet pepper. I feed mine once and I dont measure. I know how much they eat. I give about 6 pieces of some sort of lettuce, 5 small pieces of pepper, a green bean, 5 little pieces of fruit for each piggy.

Ok, here is a bunch of Romaine Lettuce.

I am understanding that they can have any lettuce except iceburg daily. Peppers daily, cilantro-not parsley daily, carrots-one baby carrot every other day. Parsley and Spinach can cause stones, feed sparingly. Not sure about the celery. I am giving mine some every day. Apples once or twice a week.

Mine also love Spring Mix - will actually squeal if they know I have some. They will only eat the leaves from celery stalks which is okay since the actual celery isn't good for them - the strings.

Even with a list not every pig is going to eat what's on it - they all have their own tastes like humans, though I have never seen one turn down lettuce.

I read that actual celery is ok as long as you cut it up in small pieces, can someone tell me which is correct?

I have read that you should cut the celery in very tiny pieces because the strings on the celery could make your piggy choke and you should watch them while they eat it. I myself would rather stay away from that, its easier.

Mine don't like it anyway which solves my problem. But, again they will eat the leaves. I did try peas today, but they didn't seem to go over too well. All my hamsters like them, so I thought I would give them to the pigs. My syrian hamsters filled his pouches like he was going on a journey which he normally doesn't do.

OOOOH THATS ROMAINE LETTUCE! We've had that in fridge a few times. I thought it was purple or something...ok they'll definetly be getting that when I can buy some.

All the veggies get cut very small. Ginge once had a coughing fit so they're even smaller now...heh.

thank yoou :)

Carrotflavour, my pigs have Cavy Cusine and Timothy Hay at their disposal in both cages all the time. They also get a bit of celery or lettuce as a treat during the day. At night, 6 or 6:30, they get their main supper of veggies, as you can see on my site in the members list, of Romaine, greenleaf, red leaf lettuce, red, yellow and green pepper, celery, a sprig or 2 of Parsley and Cilantro. Around 7:30, I set up the ramps for their floor time, which is still connected to the table. They do their running or what ever til around 8. Then they came to me for their nightcap of Kale. If I don't have it out there for them, they let me know, as they sit there and wheek, (beg). Then at 9, I remove the ramps and roll the 2x3 cage next to their main, 2x6 cage and give them a fresh handfull of green Timothy. Then they all go to sleep. This goes on 7 nights a week. I take them to my vet every two months for a regular checkup. They are in very good health according to my vet.
ps: In my site, there are only two pigs. I now have four, so their dinner plate has more than what is showing in the picture. They get plenty of Vitamin C with all the veggies. Good luck and keep the veggies coming. I will have new pictures coming soon.

I never knew THAT was romaine! We don't have that in our local supermarkets. I buy 'butterhead' lettuce, which looks like the usual crop.

Celery can be fed as long as it's cut into smaller pieces and any strings removed.

What about chicory? And I'm very frustrated to hear that parsley can cause health problems cause parsley is what mine go crazy about. :(

They can still have parsley just feed it to them 2 or 3 times a week. If chickory and chickweed are the same thing then it's fine, if it's not then I don't have a clue because it isn't on my list of good or bad foods anywhere.

Ok, me again, I found it spelled chicory and it's fine. It's a type of lettuce like radicchio.

Then I'm glad cause I just bought five chicories and my piggies love them. :) Thank you!
