My pig had a cut on his ear just now when i got him from the cage i put neosporin on the cut. How would he get a cut on his ear though?

Maybe another pig bit or scratched him.

It should be fine. Just watch for infection.

My piggies have a few pieces missing from their ears as a result of fights they had in their younger days (or so I assume) and they healed just fine. As mentionned, you should watch for infection and if its a big open cut, you should put a little neosporin on it daily until it begins to close. I did this with a cut my piggy had on her back and it healed within a week.

i did put neosporin on it. He doesn't have any other piggies to scratch him.

Is there something in his cage that is sharp? Or do his nails need clipped?

No he has a wooden bendy house and 2 plastic bowls and a water bottle and i just clipped his nails a couple of days ago. I don't know how he got cut.

The woody house could have had splinters in it. Hopefully he's alright.

Its a GP approved house so i would think it would be ok. Unless he was being crazie and just got it really bad.

Make sure all the plastic ties are not in the way of the piggy. Sometimes when we build the cage we fail to insure that all those ties are clipped short and are not in any direct path of the piggy.

I have a petstore cage.

Just because something is marketed for guinea pigs, does not mean it is safe or appropriate for them. (Case in point those horrible balls) He obviously got cut from something. I would feel around everywhere and on everything to see if there is anything sharp sticking out. A vet visit might be in order if this was self inflicted from scratching - perhaps ear infection or ear mights? Now, you found these forums so you know about C&C cages. Hopefully, you will be making one as soon as possible so that your pig can run and play and get a buddy.

As far as neosporin goes, if it's anywhere that your pig could lick it (or wipe it with a foot and lick it off the foot) then it could make your pig very, very sick. Better to rinse or wipe wounds with dilute chlorohex solution or something like that. I hope it heals up ok, without any complications!

I have one but he can get thru the grids so i have to wait for him to grow into the cage

Oh I'm so glad you have one! You can babyproof thre cage really easily so that he can go in it now. There is a photo album with various ways to babyproof, the easiest is to just extend the chloroplast with something like cardboard even to make the walls taller. Good luck with him!

I've heard some pretty bad stories about those wooden bendy homes... fiddlesticks, i think they're called? If you do a search for them on the Guinea Lynx forum you'll find some pretty bad piggy injuries that were caused by them... no one should have them!
