Cube question - is plastic safe?

Hi, everyone.
I'm trying to find some more affordable materials for making a C&C cage and I'm wondering if I can safely and effectively use plastic grids to make the cages? Do only wire grids work?

I've found a supplier that sells supplies at a great price, but I don't want to buy them unless I'mk sure it's safe.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Plastic wouldn't work very well because the pigs might chew on them and they wouldn't be as sturdy. You could, but I think the metal cubes are easier to find and I think they look better. Ventalation could be another problem.

Well, their design is identical to the wire ones, they're 14" by 14" and they're designed for retail/industrial use.
The gp I have now never chews on his regular cage, so I think it might be okay.

I just have found the wire cubes to be soooo expensive.

Any thoughts?

A box of wire grids is under 15 bucks usually, at least around here. I haven't seen any plastic ones. Are they pretty sturdy?

I would worry that plastic can harbor bacterias down deep in it, while metal can't. I got a pack of 23 grids for under $20. It's not that expensive to purchase metal grids. If you have a Target near you, they often have them on sale usually around $9.99-11.99 a box.
