Hello all,

I am trying to indroduce a new piggies into the buinch and all she does is crys...she sounds like a real pig squeeling.!!! when she's taken out to to be held, she chats and sounds "normal". Are the other pigs being to aggressive, there is about 3 weeks in age difference. Yes Quarentine was done to protect the piggies, but this behavour baffles me. I'm wondering if i should separtate them for a while more. The new piggie is quite smaller then the others.

Please so help is required

Try introducing the piggies on neutral territory instead of placing her into the cage. Also, before returning all the piggies to the cage, clean it very well with water and vinegar to remove all the scent so its brand new to each of them.

See this site for a good plan: https://cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm#Introductions

I had and still have that problem with my smallest guinea pig. She squeels like she's being murdered and I'll walk over and she'll just be doing it to keep pigs away. Sometimes, they are bothering her. I don't blame her for being on edge. I even had a bloody nose incident. I didn't want to take her out and make her be by herself, so I just watch them more closely and check her little body for marks.

I have the same problem Kalrik. My pigs don't physically fight, just bickering like most females. I do have a guinea pig that can't move around normally. She has to drag herself, so whenever the other pigs get a little too close she starts squealing up a storm and in the beginning I used to run. Then I realized the others were just standing around. Though lately, my one pig who as a barbering problem has started chewing her fur and since she is an American pig her hair is rather short, so it hurts when the other one pulls it.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has a pig that cries wolf most of the time.

I keep checking her, like 4 times a day and no marks...Thank God! I guess she likes it when i run to the cage. Haha, wow does she ever got me trained

Yeah at first I'd always get really worried, but now I just make sure I don't see fighting.

I have found after 7 of my own and helping with fostering, Guinea pigs are very intelligent animals. We run every time they make a noise to see what is wrong. And most of the time they sound like they are starving which convinces us we need to feed them.

And to think they used to be considered a very dumb animal - sometimes I think they are a lot smarter than than some humans I have come in contact with over they years.

I totally hear you, some people i have met over the years make rocks look smart, haha. My 9 year old son just loves her to peices, always wants to hold her. Loves hand feeding her veggies. I made him a cuddle pouch so that we all feel secure with him holding her. she licks him and nuzzles him. Its just to cute. He has named her "Smoothie", not very orginal but its ok with me. He sits on the floor with her and talks soooo quiet that at times you can't make out what he's saying. When i asked him why he was talking sooo softly to her, he said he didn't want to sound like a big mean giant trying to eat her. What a sweet heart. Yesterday we FINALLY had nice weather and all my other kidstook off to play outside, but my son said that he wanted to stay inside to "play" with Smoothie. He said that she was a baby and needed some "lovings." He has a very mature mentality for his age. He said to me, "If we are going to catch them and cage them, then we have to spoil them!"

Just thought i'd share a really good experiance of kids with piggies. Don't worry he never takes her out or puts her back in the cage and NEVER spends time with her without supervision. I belive that even the most well-meaning child can hurt a piggie by accident.

Hi:

What a smart, sweet little man you have there. Your post brought tears to my eyes. He could teach a lot of adults something about how to treat and care for animals.

One of my girls were like that for awhile until I redid their cages and put them all together she stopped. She would squeal when another piggie gets near her. She feels safe when she is with Harriette my long haired one. Harriette is a drama queen and she bosses everyone around.

How adorable your son is, onyx! That sounds just like my little brother who's seven... he's such a piggie lover, but can't have any in the house because my dad's highly allergic. It brought tears to my eyes too! Kids can be great with animals, they're so caring and trusting and I think that the animals sense that.
