A family friend had a guinea pig who was misgendered at the store and had babies, so I took one off their hands. He's very young, maybe between a month or two old. He is eating fine and getting along wonderfully with my big pig Spoonie!! However, I noticed that he has one eye that seems a bit crusty that he has begun to hold half shut. He also drinks a LOT of water. I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow but I wanted a piece of mind; does anyone have any ideas about treatment? Is it a bacterial infection maybe? He's breathing fine, eating normally... he's still shy so he keeps to himself sometimes (he's a very submissive pig to my super dominant male Spoonie!) but he doesn't act ill in any way. His eye is just worrying me.
Also, I don't have knowledge of baby pigs since I got my pig as a juvenile. Do they drink a lot of water? Because Spoonie would go through a bottle in maybe a week, and with the addition of this new pig (his name is Numchucks haha), the water was half empty in a day!!! He's a drinker!! I don't know if this is indicative of illness or if it's a baby thing? Wasn't sure...
Like I said, he's getting vet care tomorrow. I'm just hoping it won't require him to have any extensive treatment, because Spoonie can't live without his little buddy! Every time I take little Numchucks out, Spoonie wheeks and wheeks for him It would break my heart to have him have to stay a while at the vets!!
