Couple of age/food questions ...

These are all kind of tied together by the age question, so I'm going to ask them all at once:

1. Is there a way to "age" your pigs? I'm not sure how old mine are and the breeder of Fuzz hasn't returned my call. Can weight be a close approximation? Today, Gus weighed 17.7 oz (550 g?) and Fuzz weighed 18.7 oz (582 g?).

2. At what age should they stop getting unlimited pellets? If I put out one measuring cup, it usually takes them 2-3 days to finish it, or at least get it to where I can see the bottom of the bowl.

3. Will there come a time when they start to fight? (Puberty?) At what approximate age? Is it best to separate them, or let them duke it out as long as I don't see blood and injuries? I believe Fuzz has already done the "I'm going to be king" thing by chasing Gus and humping him for 3 days. (3 days in which I spent sexing Gus to make sure he wasn't a she!)

1. I can't answer that one as I know no definate way to tell the age.

2. When they reach 6 months, they should be cut back to 1/8-1/4 cup of timothy based pellets per day.

3. When boars go into puberty they may fight. There is no saying they will or not. Usually puberty can be anywhere I think between 5-8 months of age. If they do start fighting don't separate unless there is major bloodshed. Check out the www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm page for more information.
