Hello! I've just joined the forum! It's awesome here!!!

I just had a question about building my rabbit & guinea pig a home. Will the urine leak through or soak into the coroplast that so many other people used for their homes???

Thanks!!!

I don't think so, it's plastic so it shouldn't soak through, you need to have something other than just the coroplast on the floor, like Care Fresh.

OK...thanks.

I have some bathmats down as well, my rabbit can't have any kind of shavings.

Why's that?

Bathmats are fine. Coroplast will not leak with pee, although it will leave little white marks that are easy to wipe off. I have had a problem with a grunge on mine.

Grunge, is that what it's called? I currently have a slight problem with that too, I mix Baking Soda, and water together to make a paste, and then I put it on the stained spot, and then wait a few minutes, and scrape off the urine stains. Works like a charm, sometimes makes your arm a little sore.

What do you use to scrape it off with?

Great suggestions. Thanks.

I've also read that vineagar is good for removing the "grunge". My rabbit can't have shavings because he develops breathing problems and I have asthma so it's not good for me either.

I found a set of plastic putty knives in the paint department at WalMart for less than $1. It comes with 3 sizes, firm enough to scrape up gunk, but not so sharp that you'll gouge your cage floor.

Just put a little straight vinegar on the grunge, let it sit a minute then wipe up with a paper towel.

I'll have to try the vinager, but that smells really bad to me, and I think in time wear down the coroplast cause of it's acidity.

I use spoons, I picked 2 of them out of the ones we had for eating, and they never make it back there. I've tried using putty things, but they never work for me.

Nope, the vinegar won't harm the coroplast.

Have you made your cage yet? How is it going with that?

I wish I could of had it done by now, but because school in ending, and I have to study for exams, and tomorrow I have to be a sponsor for my best friends little sisters confermation, I havn't done anything, I have found one place so far that has the squares....13 for $20 plus tax. Sunday, I'm going into town, and looking for supplies that cost less.
