I recieved a new guinea pig a while ago and I was told by the previous owner it was a female. When I put her with my other female they got along fine for about a month. Today I noticed my gp's chasing and "prr'ing" to each other. But the gp, I was told was a female, began to mount and thrust my other female. I seperated them after my female began to clack her teeth. Is this serious? Did I mistake the male for a female? Or is this harmless play? Please help.

Check both your guinea pig's sexes to be sure. But it IS normal for females to mount each other when they are in heat.

I have an older female with 2 young ones. The older one often acts like a "male" towards the little girls. I think it's a dominance thing.
