Concerned about ringworm.

A while ago my girl Cleopatra got ringworm, and i treated it and she was fine. But then she passed it on to my other girl, Blackberry. I disinfected the cage but realized that the wooden house would have to be disinfected as well and I baked it. A bit later Blackberry got ringworm again, so I bought them a new wooden home. And just a week ago Cleopatra got it yet again. It seems as though they are passing it back and forth to each other. I know suspect it is the cage (it has wood trimming on top, although they can't reach it, and it also has wooden support, but it is plastic on the inside). So im building a new cage tommorow (hopefully a C&C if i can get it to fit), but here's my question:
Because they appear to pass it back and forth to each other would it be wise to seperate them for the time being until they heal? Im reluctant to do so because they've lived together for so long and I know they would sit there and weak to each other constantly.
P.S. I was wondering if they could be getting it from where they spend a large amount of their day which is just in and near my room. But how would I clean that, its all carpeted.

Re: Concerned about ringworm.

you might have to separate them until there's no trace of the rignworm. since ringworm is a funguns, it is easy to spread from one piggie to the next. bathe them with a anti-fungal shampoo that's safe for piggies, and use separate grooming brushes for them and separate feeding dishes, water bottles, etc... until theres no more trace of the ringworm anymore. you don't really need to treat the carpet unless you give them free time on the rug. if you do just steamclean the rug with a cleaner that's safe for animals, just incase there's any residue left form the cleaner and your piggies chew on the carpet fibers. hope this helps :) .

Re: Concerned about ringworm.

the problem is it goes away and it's gone for months, and then all of a sudden i see a little balding scratch on them again. where wood i find anti-fungal shampoo?
Maybe it's the cage or the carpet. because the cage i have now is small, they spend 50% of the day outside the cage in my room, which is entirly carpeted.
well, tommorow im setting up that cage i bought them, so hopefully they'll be happy little pigsters :D

Re: Concerned about ringworm.

k, sry i took so long to answer your q's. i found a site that has a safe shampoo for piggies that treats ringworms, parasitic infestation and the carpet as well :D . heres the site: (broken link removed) if the link dosent work you can do a web search for the name "VET-SECT™ REPEL Shampoo", its used by vets so you'll have to buy it directly from your vet. another great site by a piggie expert named Peter Gurney (www.oginet.com/pgurney) has a solution for skin problems on his site.
