Hello everyone! :silly: Some background information, I have an 11 month old girlie. Her name is Ophelia. I adopted her at Petco after her original owners dumped her because she didn't get along with the other pigs in her cage. I don't think this person knew much about pigs so maybe it was just typical dominant behavior and they just confused it for fighting..

I was watching Youtube and there was a video of someone who had a pig that hadn't gotten along with their other pigs. This person got a baby pig and paired it with the pig. It worked out really well.

I figured a baby pig would appeal to her maternal instincts and be more like her baby to rear. When I say baby, I mean piggies that no longer need their mothers but are still very young, not a day old pig that still needs its mother.

It'd be hard to find a female baby where I live. There are no piggie rescues so you have to hunt the classifies and shelters. I only adopt.

what if you placed an ad on craigslist saying that you are looking
to adopt a young female. And also alert your local animal shelter. But like petstores
craigslist is best known place for people looking for a quick way out of an animal that
normally know anything about them most of the time they are kept in small petstore cages

I second Craigslist. After getting Amy there, I still check the listings just out of curiosity. I regularly see babies born from accidental pregnancies where people got mis-sexed pigs or were just careless. Just be very careful when adopting a young female; if it was with any brothers for too long, it could easily be pregnant.

That's a good idea! I'm a little weary of Craigslist because of stuff I've heard about them.. I got my first rats from an eBay classified ad. They were in a really bad situation and I am so thankful I found them! They're gone now..
I volunteer in the Education Dept. of my local Humane Society(teaching munchkins about respecting animals and people about animal care), so I spend a lot of time there. When I was last there I checked for piggies, they had five rabbits and one Syrian hamster(I'm considering adopting him.) There's two other branches of the HSMO in STL and I was on Petfinder, one had a few piggies but they're grown up. They have two females, one is a senior citizen and the other is fully grown so I was considering adopting one of the two males they have and neutering it.. The other, like my Humane Society, was pigless.
I'm really into adopting from classifieds. I think those animals tend to be overlooked and those are the animals that need to be removed from a bad situation ASAP. The rats I adopted were in horrible conditions, the person I adopted from was impoverished so I don't blame them. She did her best with what she had and ultimately, she made the right choice by giving them up. They were in a filthy bird cage when I got them and I set them up in a double Ferret Nation when we got home. I sent her pictures and she was really happy that they were living better lives.

I would also consider a neutered male with a submissive personality. They would probably get along very well.

I was considering that too, her own personal boy-toy. :D

That's what I was thinking, I'd look for the youngest possible pig, too young to reproduce. I can't afford more than two pigs right now, time-wise. They'll be going to college with me in a year. They'll probably be spending some time in a large store-bought cage(still way smaller than my C&C) while I'm moving and getting set up, I can't have more than two pigs in those conditions!

I dont think their is such a thing as too young ( sort of)
