I'm a college student, and as well as having a guinea pig I have a turtle. Being a college student can be very pocket breaking (as I'm sure many of you know), but I want to make a new home for my piggy. I was wondering if anyone could show me pictures of your piggy homes that would be good for a small room, not cost alot, be easy to clean, and of course, be good for my piggy. I don't have a very big room so I need to keep the cage compact. I do give him floor space to run around as it is now, but he needs a bigger home. What do you think of a 30 gallon rubbermaid? Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

$30.00 should make you a 2x3 C&C cage which is only 30"x 45" or 28"x 41" depending on the grid size.

I dont think that a rubbermaid container would be the best choice. Not enough air flow. I made a 2x4 grid cage for a little under $20. It depends on where you can buy the Coroplast. I think a 2x3 would probably be a good choice if possible.

If you're worried about money, you're misplacing your attention by focusing on the cage. That is the small piece of the cost. Bedding especially, followed by food (fresh and pellets) are the large cost by far. Budget for those first before deciding on getting pigs.

my cage is currently one of those child's wading pools, which you can pick up for like six bucks, and a bag of bedding will fill it and with that much ample room, it doesn't need to be cleaned as often. also, depending on the litter, you can find some bedding that works similar to cat litter, in that the urine areas harden and you can just scoop them out. this helps a batch of bedding last 2-3 times longer. are you giving your pig hay? i know that hay has become one of the major cost factors, and until this site i never knew of its importance and let my piggie go without it, he's so much happier with it! hope any of this helps...

If you buy hay by the bale and store it, it is a whole lot cheaper. Especialy if you have multiple pigs. Trust me, I have five!

five pigs? are they all the same sex? i saw one post on here with someone who had something like 30-40 pigs!
