Circumcise my Cavy?

I have a female guniea pig and accidentally adopted a beautiful long haired male buddy for her. I'm not looking to emasculate either of them, I just want my pets to be able to love on eachother in the large cage i've just built for them without having tons of babies. Please email me if you know of a good abstinance education program, a gentile and inexpensive vet in the New York area that can either spay or neuter one of them, or have any other good ideas that will allow my cavys hang out in the same cage.

definately get the boy fixed. looks like they are already together, though. Id be worried that your female might already be expecting. seperate them and schedule an operation as soon as possible.

Yes, do get your boy fixed. I'm sure the bet will tell you to separate them for several weeks after the operation, just in case. I think you're looking for the word 'fix';
'circumcise' is quite a different thing altogether (unless I'm mistaken)...

Your piggies are beautiful! I mainly just wanted to comment on that! If it were me, I would definatley get the boy fixed so you won't have babies running around unless the female is already pregnant!

they were together for about 10 minutes and didnt do anything that looked like cavy sex... It's been a while since sex ed class, but people and animals can't get pregnant from a very little bit of sniffing... can they?

Not exactly. I had a small boy who was only 2 weeks old who was already mature. He has gotton on the girls a couple of times before I forced him out of the cage, and none are pregnant. I don't think it could get them pregnant in a few seconds, but if he looked away for a long time, probably yes. But remember, the sow has to be in heat.

They can get pregnant in seconds. Thats what happened to my Muffy a month ago and had 2 babies. Also my Squeakers is due anytime now and not sure how she got pregnant either.

Well the best i can do at this point is hope that wiggles isnt pregnant, and get the still unnamed boy to the vet ASAP. But i didnt see anything that looked like cavy sex so I think i'm in the clear.
