Choosing the Perfect Pet Guinea Pig: Texels

They are some of the most docile, sweet tempered pigs. But they do require daily grooming, even if you aren't planning to show them. Bits of bedding get caught in their long curls and quickly form mats. If these aren't caught right away, they can grow huge and start pulling painfully on the cavy's skin. Sometimes they literally get ripped out, leaving bare skin. Also cages must be kept scrupulously clean. More so than with other breeds. Excess moisture can get trapped by all that fur and lead ito stubborn fungal infections. So if you have your heart set on a texel be prepared to provide extra care.

guinea pigs weren't bred for temperment it really just depends on the pig. They were bred for looks you probably just got a great guinea pig that happens to be a texel.

yes I agree with Dagwell

I didn't write this. I got it from some guinea pig site.

Yes, that is correct. Guinea pigs are shown for their looks, not temperament. Texels could very well be sweet animals, but quite frankly, so could Abbys and Teddys and Americans. All animals have the potential to be sweet, some just more than others. However, it says that cages should be scrupulously clean more so than with others. it shouldn't matter what breed it is, all cages should be clean, I mean a few poops isn't bad, but I suggest you spot clean regulargly. And I'm not pouncing on you, Jasper's girl, just commenting!

oops sorry Jasper. We did not mean to p0unce on you like that. Sorry,

Oh well, It's not really a big deal anyway. Is Aiden a texel? Didn't you say you were getting him today?

Yeah he is, I think I might change his name. It really doesn't suit him.

I saw his picture, he's a real cutie! How old is he?

He's three months old I think I'll put some more pictures up.

Here's the link to the new pictures! (broken link removed)

I think all piggies are good. but my long haired silky Harriette is more docile than the others she loves to be petted and never bite at all.
