I just had the most freaky thing happen with our 2 month old guinea pig.. I was sitting next to the GP cage & noticed a lot of bouncing in the house.. I checked & our new GP, Penny was looking 'odd' I took her out of the cage to cuddle her & she was whimpering very strange ( Very soft) I noticed her fur was dirty so I was wiping it with a damp cloth & all of a sudden she seemed to seize & when I tried to cuddle her, she was straining her head in a wierd way... I immediately layed her on the table to check & she seemed to die right there... I don't 'do' death well so I called for my 12YO son who checked her over & listened for a heartbeat with a stethoscope & there was none..

When my son picked her up he noticed some of what we thought was the bedding ( we use the natural bedding ) that appeared to be stuck in her mouth... he got tweezers & a huge wet hunk of the bedding came out of her mouth .. Now i'm wondering if she didn't choke to death.. she was eating fine yesterday but I left the house early this AM

is it possible for her to have choked to death??

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. How terrible. I would assume they can choke to death just like any animal.

Sorry to hear about your beloved piggy. It seems, if you found a large hunk of bedding in her throat, that she did indeed choke to death.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry.

I'm very sorry. What an unfortunate way to die especially with you having to witness it. It must have been terrible. My thoughts are with you.

I am very sorry. What kind of bedding did you use? What kind of food was she eating?

I am very sorry for your loss, how tragic.

Very very sorry for your loss. That's heart shattering

Wow, I am so sorry for your loss. :(

Too young, poor girl. So sorry for your loss. :(

I am very sorry to hear you lost a piggy. Yes piggies like any animal can choke. I recently completed an animal first aid and CPR class which went over choking. The class was more designed for cat and dog owners but the lady teaching the class would scale down the instructions for me as she knew I had piggies. I found it very informative and would recommend it to other piggy owners. The class was run by PetTech www.PetTech.net.

I'm so sorry about your poor litlle pigger.

That must have been so horrible for you to see. Poor little guinea. I'm so sorry for your loss.
