How long have you had Korben? Temperatures over 80F. is very dangerous for chins, thank goodness for a/c.

Susan, I will have to check out those two site and see what they have. I am always looking for new places to buy pet supplies. Here is a picture of the wheel I have. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is a bit loud. Lily has tried a few times to run on it and I think the noise scares her. The wheel is 16", so it is a good size wheel. I'm still hoping to get a flying saucer for my chinnies. I just wish that they weren't so darn expensive. Skye is doing very well. I think she is starting to get used to things around here. What does it mean when they "bark"? Skye lets out this noise that sounds like she is barking. She has only done this a couple of times. I will try and get some more pictures soon.

He´s with us for 10 months now. But he´s 4-year-old I suppose. We don´t know his age exactly because of all his past (3 owners before us). That´s the age that the 2nd owner told my brother-in-law.

80F is almost 27C, am I right?
When Korben had the convulsion the temperature was over 30C, way too over, maybe 35C.
Now, we do a lot of stuff to keep him fresh when is summer. We put a frozen mineral water bottle inside an old sock and leave it inside the cage, so he lay next to the bottle and doesn´t feel so hot.
And he doesn´t leave the cage in hot weather, because his body temperature can raise.

You can do other things like keeping a couple of bricks in the freezer and than placing one in his cage. Rotating them out as they get warm. He will lay on the chilled bricks. You can also use a fan to keep the air moving around him. Also, placing a frozen water bottle in front of the fan will help cool the air around him.

I finally located a used flying saucer and should have it by Friday or Saturday. I hope that just one of my chins will use it. If not, I wonder if the ratties would use it? Skye is still a bit skittish but she is slowly starting to come around. Lily is a funny little girl. She does this thing where she will sit and stare me down until I go over and pet her. She gets so excited when I start to walk over by her that her feet dance and she reaches her arms through the cage. She will grab a hold of my finger and snuggle with it. The weird thing is, is that she doesn't really like to be held, at least that is what it seems like. The other day I had her in the bathroom for her bath and she leaped right onto my head. She just sat on top of my head like it was the thing to do. She is such a silly girl:)

UPDATE: The flying saucer came on Friday and decided to put it in Skye's cage. I am glad to say that Skye was using that night. She hopped on it and started to run. I couldn't believe that she figured it out so fast. She has never had any kind of wheel before so I was expecting her to not use it. I am just thrilled to dealth that she is using it. I will have to get a movie clip of her using it. In a couple weeks I will give the FS to Lily and see if she will use it. I have a feeling that she won't use it, but you never know.

Here is a movie clip of Skye using her new flying saucer. The clip is a bit dark but you can still see her using it. As you can tell, she is still trying to perfect her skills with using it but she is doing a good job at it. Way to go Skye whaohoo!!

I started wit the introductions and Skye is a bit nervous with Lily. Lily doesn't have a problem with Skye, she wants to be her friend. I put them in the bathroom and Skye is fine as long as Lily doesn't get too close. I have had them together a couple times now, each time Skye gets better with Lily. I think this may work as long as I don't push it with them. Does anyone have any advise?

If you're looking for other chin sites try Forchinate Chins because she had a great variety AND all proceeds go to her chinchilla rescue. I order from her almost religiously for my two chins and thor. ForCHINate Chins is dedicated to rescuing and re-homing chinchillas in or around Ohio.
Great for other little critters too!

I have purchased from her before, she has some good stuff. The picture I posted (a few posts up) of a wheel is from her. If I lived closer to her I would adopted a chin.
