Is this safe? I put their hay in an old Kleenex box. They went to town on the box. The box is half gone now. :eek:hmy: It's probably fine for their teeth but I am wondering about their digestion?

I decided to try a hay bag instead but it didn't work as well and they chewed the corners of the bag off. gah.

So I am trying part of a papersack right now. But it's quickly disappearing too.

I just put my hay in a pile on a cage liner. I have also used bent grids for hay racks.

I doubt it will hurt them. I give mine toilet paper rolls to gnaw on. :)

I would also suggest using a bent grid as a hay rack. :) I ziptie coroplast over the ends of it to keep them from being able to climb in it.

If you think about it, when cardboard gets wet it gets mushy fast, and breaks apart. So stomach acid would probably do that faster and break it down more and they are only consuming little amounts so its alright. I give my pigs paper towel rolls and cardboard tunnels wrapped in safe veggie dye paper.

I sure hope it's safe too because my piggies destroy two toilet paper rolls a week! I take them out when they get thin enough they could get a leg stuck or something, then give them a new one! They push them around and gnaw. :)

Good, I am glad that it's ok. I was worried it might make them constipated or something. I also noticed last night that someone had chewed bits out of the fleece too. I think it's Bailey. He's been chewing like crazy lately. He also chews on the bars sometimes. Should I be worried about the fleece chewing? I am thinking I'll put some cardboard all around the sides of the cage so he can't chew on the bars. He only does that when we come in the room and go up to talk to him in the cage. It's like he wants out and he comes over to gnaw on the bars to tell us so.
