Hi there!
My piggie likes to chew holes through the fleece bedding - any thoughts on how to stop that?

Thanks,
Shanna

Maybe give your pigs more hay.

Really? The rack is still half-full - but, I'll try it :)

Piggies LOVE to chew. They LIVE to chew. That is what a guinea pig does. Put carpet down, they will pull on the carpet and eat it. I put a cotton fabric over the carpet and they pull the stuffing from the cotton fabric out or pull the strands around the edges. I had to sew all the way around the fabric to make sure there were no stuffing or threads hanging out. They still seem to find some. If they pull on the fleece and make holes I cant think of anything you can do. Maybe your fleece is too thin, or maybe your fleece is not tight enough. I try to keep things in the cage that they can chew on. I have a large cardboard tube made for small animals that they love. Also I have a basket that they love to rip up. Do you have other things like this for them?

Try just given them a pile of hay. My pigs have a pile and they run through it, sleep in it and of course eat it. So try a pile instead of just having it in a rack.

I've put lots of "approved" things in the cage for her to chew on. I have the cardboard tunnel that's meant for piggies... she runs through it, but doesn't chew on it. I put a wooden dangly bird toy thing in there... ignores it. Wood sticks for chewing... ignored. Fiddlesticks... ignored.

But, man oh man, here comes the toilet paper roll - WAHOO! I really don't like giving her that roll too much - if she had her way, she'd eat a roll a day. That can't be healthy. And, oh boy, the pigloo ceiling - man that's tasty! She's a humanized pig - if it's bad for her, she wants it - if it's good for her, forget it (that includes the most popular veggies - all she wants is spinach)

I think I'll make a hay loft, like everyone is suggesting. Thanks for the great ideas! (And, yes, the fleece might be too thin. I'll try some thicker material)

Thanks everyone!

Keep the fleece tight by putting bricks on the edges
