OK..so I went to the grocery store to look for chewable Vit C. All had sugar listed as an ingrediant. So I went to CVS...I found one that does not have sugar, but it does have sucrose and natural flavorings and artificial colors. Is this ok, or is there a better one with nothing extra. If so, where can you find it and is there a brand name?

We have been doing liq vit C (got it from our vet) but wanted to go the chewable route. ANyone else switch over? Was it hard to get them to eat the tablets? They absolutely love their vit C now...not sure if they are going to be mad if we switch!

Thanks!

I dont give my cavies extra vitamins. If your cavies are getting a variety of fruits and veggies which are meeting their daily vitamin requirements, I dont see any reason to need to suppliment.

By feeding fruits/veggies to supply your cavies with the vitamins - you wont have any artificial colouring, any un-natural sugars or any other things cavies dont need to have in their diets.

but if I wanted to do you think oxbow supplements are a good Idea?

Yes, I give it to the pigs that will eat it a few times a week. They think it's candy.

You can get vit c tablets and liquid Vit C at GNC stores.

Oxbow Vitamin C tablets are a good choice. Selms, if you can find a plain Vit. C tablet with <1 gram of sugar, it's ok to give those too.

I use the Oxbow tablets. They were expensive ($13) but it is good to know they are the best. Simon will just eat them from my hand.

Even though my piggies get veggies and fruit I still give them vitamin c tablets 3 x a week just for insurance purposes. It has sugar in it, most do, but very very minimal. The tablet is 100 mg. and I break them in quarters.

I just buy a pharmacy store brand for myself and it contains only Vitamin C from ascorbic acid and sodium ascorbate, but I really don't know if that is good or bad.

I would buy oxbow if I could, but I simply cannot afford the shipping. I will only give them to my piggies if the grocery store did not have a good supply of veggies. I am not worried about the shelf life because I buy them for myself and one bottle will only last me about 2 months anyway.

okay the tablets are 8.09 and shipping is 5.79 that is $13.88 and if that is too much how do you get your oxbow food?

I bought my tablets from the feed store. They were $13. When I order Oxbow food I usually get two or three 10 pound bags along with some other stuff- it saves on shipping.
