I am bringing my 2 girls in for a check-up. They have been scratching a bit and I want to make sure they do not have mites and if they do then treat them now before it becomes serious.
My question is what range should a vet be charging for a check-up and meds? I have never brought a guinea pig to the vet and last time I was even at a vet was like 10 years ago.

for my two boys, the first vet check up and ivermectin totaled $83 but she discounted because she knew one of my pigs previous to my owning him so maybe $90's for initial check up and meds

Checkups vary widely from vet to vet, so it's impossible to tell.

If you are taking him to the vet, have him treated for mites. Almost all skin scrappings are inconclusive. Treat him for mites, it will help if he has them, but it won't hurt him if he doesn't.

I am very much against typical medicine and would like to use a homeopathic treatment. Does anyone know if there is a home remedy, or is it in their best interest to see a vet ASAP?

There is no home treatment for mites without using Ivermectin. You CAN buy ivermectin and treat him yourself, but thats not really homeopathic.

Could a pig die from mites?

I think so. You could check at (broken link removed)

Yes, miccee, they can and sometimes do. Ivermectin can be bought and administered topically--see guinealynx for dosage and application instructions.
