What do you guys think of the Cell-Sorb Bedding? All I have ever used for hamsters has been CareFRESH and Aspen, and I wanted to try something different, How does Cell-Sorb compare to CareFRESH and Aspen?

They work good, but some people feel that it is hard on the piggies feet all those wood pellets. Here is their site (broken link removed) . I have used wood pellets (cell sorb etc) a lot and they work good absorb and everything but in the winter they absorb way to much moisture. And they get quite dusty too sometimes if you don't clean the pee spots out. I think aspen and wood pellets work about the same. (They absorb pretty mush the same amount and all) Apsen does spill every where though. Um I personally don't like carefresh.

They are actually wood pellets....ehhh.....I thought they were like carefresh. I definitely don't want pellets. Why don't you like carefresh? I checked out their website, but I couldn't tell from the picture what form the bedding was in and it really didn't give me too much information. What do you use/recommend?

No clue about cell sorb but I don't like Carefresh either. I think it is a bad value for the amount you get. I like kiln dried pine with woody pet in the problem areas. It works like a charm, no odor and is easy to clean. I think, cost wise, it is a better value. I get a HUGE bag of kiln dried pine that lasts me over a month for under $5. I have a (2) 2x3 and a 2x4 that I use it in. I get a bag of woody pet that I use in the problem areas and in my bird cages, it lasts me 2 months.

They are kind of like "Yesterdays News" (also known as wood pellets or paper pellets wood paper same thing both come from trees) And yes they are a pellet I do believe. If I remember right. I use a different bedding everytime I change the cage. I don't like carefresh because it gets wet and moist too quick. And it doesn't last very long.
I looked on there site some more- and supposably they are a bit softer than "yesterdays news". Oh and they are pellets.

I use all kinds of bedding...... Pine, Aspen, Carefresh only sometimes, towels, fleece, etc etc (Kaytee soft absorbent bedding)

Well, I think I am going to get aspen and just top it off with some hay (of course, like I would anyways) and then maybe some fleece possibly and possibly a bit of carefresh since I use that for my hamsters anyways.

Yep totally forgot about that- they are way too expensive for they amount of bedding you get. I get 10 cu. feet of pine for $6.95 (not kiln dried but I use the airing out method of making it safe, little by little out in my shed for 2 weeks or more of airing out until it has no smell. Voodojoint a cavycages member told me about this method)

Sounds fine.

I'm going to get Aspen from PetFoodDirect.com, wish me luck! :D I'm also going to use the mixture of the other stuff as well. Any idea on how I would wash the fleece if it were to get dirty? It is a dark navy fleece, almost black, if you needed to know the color of it.

IN a washing machine, or outside on your back patio with dish soap. Or in a laundry mat. Oh and please read my other posts in your other thread about bedding. I just posted some more.

Tips and Tricks
The Secret Bedding!
  • Cell-Sorb Plus is THE BEST bedding! You wouldn't believe how great it is. Nothing beats it for absorption and odor control. It has some special ingredients in it, gypsum or something that actually neutralizes the urine so you never get that ammonia smell! BUT, it's hard to find! Definitely superior to CareFresh and Pine and anything else I've tried. There is some dust when you are dumping it out of the bag. But it is manageable. The wet spots clump up for easy removal. You can stir it up and remove clumps to freshen between full changes. My experience is it lasts about 3-4 times as long as CareFresh--easy. I'm pretty generous with it. I put down about an inch and a half in my cages. You could get away with a bit less, but a thick base makes it easier to refresh midweek
The Cell-Sorb web site is (broken link removed). Manufacturer is Fangman Specialties, Inc. 897 Ohio Pike Cincinnati, Ohio 45245 (513) 752-4500. Call the manufacturer to find a distributor near you. Then call the distributor to find out what pet stores he/she supplies. That's how I did it

I found this on the cell sorb testimonials page obviuosly this is what cavyspirit think of cell sorb plus.

Does anyone know if it is actually pellets or not? Because I really don't want pellets for my little piggies....

Cell Sorb Plus--Fangman Specialties

    • Soft pellets of recycled newspaper containing a non-toxic patented neutralizing mineral for excellent odor control.
I found this on a website, notice is says soft pellets, but they are still pellets.

Well, they look like pellets, but it doesn't really say anywhere. I would assume they are though. Do you think that it would be ok to use that with carefresh on top or mixed in??

And what is 'woody pet'??

I use carefresh and aspen together, I like it, but I'm switching to more aspen and less carefreah because it smells better. I don't have any smelling bad problems, it just smells fresher that way. I recomend carefresh actually...but with aspen or kiln dried pine mixed in. You get the best of both worlds! lol

I don't believe they are pellets, per se. I think they are pellets in the sense that they are not shavings, and they are sort of clumped. They say they are soft. I've heard great stuff about this bedding, and it is really cheap on (broken link removed). They have huge bags on sale for 20 bucks! =)

If you use hay to top off bedding, you should be changing the hay every other day. It doesn't absorb, gets moldy quickly, and the pigs eat it.

Well, I have ordered 7.5 cu. in. of Aspen bedding, we'll see how long that lasts me, I might end up mixing some Carefresh, newspaper, or fleece in with it for now, and maybe in the future I can get Cell-Sorb to mix in with it as well.

the aspen will stick to the fleece and be a pain to get out...I know it sticks to my cavy cozies and I have to shake it out to wash it! lol

I think cell-soarb is like feline pine, I use that for my cat litter and it ROCKS!! I love it and I've had her for 13 years and I will never use another letter. But its not soft...so I don't know what to think of it. I think I might head on over to petsmart one day and check it out. There's one down the street from my work.
