Hi, I just got the Oxbow Cavy Cuisine for my 5 month old pigs and it says on the label "not recommended for growing guinea pigs". Just when is a GP considered to be mature and no longer growing? How old do you recommend they should be before switching from Cavy Performance to Cavy Cuisine? Is there anything wrong with feeding younger pigs that CC? Thanks!

Performance is alfalfa based, Cuisine is timothy based. It is recommended that an alfalfa based pellet be fed to pigs 6 mos old or younger (although I have also seen a year recommended) or pregnant moms. I think you would be fine to feed the Cuisine to a 5 month old pig.

feeding the cuisine shouldnt hurt the piggie. try to include some good quality alfalfa hay for a little bit, bit make sure to switch back to timothy when he does reach adulthood (usually 6 month). all my piggies are under 6 months old and they only get timothy and alfalfa only as a treat.

Sounds good. Thanks for the help!
