Maddy again, we have a cat that is young and rowdy and gets on top of the pigs cage. Today I found him almost in the cage. I sprayed him with water. I zip tied all the grids on well, but some still come apart and let him stick his paw through. Since he still has claws, I am worried Quetzel will come home to dead pigs. Even though it's only a week away, I am still scared. Does anyone else have this problem? Suggestions? I would love to know.

Closet shelving makes a great lid.

Try keeping the pig's cage in a room where the cat can't go.. like a bedroom with the door closed.

I put a blanket over the top of my cage and use binder clips to hold it in place so the cats can't scratch it away. FYI I have a C&C Large cage with a center support and cover.

For one week, I'd keep the door shut and not let your cat in.

Maybe you could put your cat in a dog crate while you take care of the pigs.
My dog likes to get at my piggies sometimes, because she always chases squirrels she thinks they're small ones. Try closing the door, or putting the cat in a dog cage

The problem is, my room doesn't have a door. All I have is a partial wall made out of the fire place. I keep the bathroom door shut.

I would agree with [MENTION=13820]bpatters[/MENTION] and ask your parents to earn closet shelving.
Are you pet-sitting or are these your permanent pigs? If you are pet-sitting I would use the blanket idea unless your cat sits on top of it. Otherwise get a nice permanent lid, for your pigs sake.

She's only pet sitting her sister's pigs. By the time she earns money for the lids, they'd already gone home to her sister.

The blanket idea sounds good. You can use old towels too.

FYI neither grids nor closet shelving keep my cats arms out. She can still reach in and swat at my pigs. I attached a clear vinyl sheet to the top of my cage in two sections. Where the lid attaches in the center there is ventilation.

Since this is temporary I would use a bed sheet or any other thin blanket that would help get some air and light into the cage. Lay it over the cage and clip it down very well. on all edges.

When we first got our pigs and the cats were adjusting, we'd put a fitted sheet or blanket over the top of the cage and let it drape over any time we'd leave. I put something heavy enough so they wouldn't pull it down *board, box, etc* Worked out well. We don't have to do that now because they are used to them so they rarely go near the cage.
