Carpet?

Many people seem to be using carpet for their cages, but i've read that carpet may be harmful to guinea pigs if ingested. is it really safe to use carpet on ramps and floors? Do many people have problems? Is there an alternative?

I just use a bathmat on my ramp, made out of carpet. They've never chewed it, so I don't think it would be a problem. You could always use fleece or towels, though! =)
