What breed? Can you tell what breed it is?

If your at a petstore, for example, can you tell which breed it is?
Whenever I go to a pet store, all the guinea pigs always look the same.
Can you only fully see when they're older?

Sometimes you can tell, sometimes not. Most guinea pigs are a mix of breeds, anyway. My two are littermates, and one looks like an American short hair with longer hair than usual, and the other is full-out Abyssinian on the front and Peruvian on the back.

There are quite a few different breeds. Google "guinea pig breeds" and you'll be able to see photos and descriptions of them. There are a lot of mixes, too, so sometimes they are very unique. You can usually tell what they are when they are young. Sometimes there are breeds that look similar but the length of the fur tells them apart and they might not have their full length coat as a baby. The direction the fur grows, length of fur, texture of fur, shape of face, type of whiskers, etc. are all specific to different breeds.
