I was browsing the internet about what guinea pigs can and can't eat and found this?
can they really eat oats, diary products, meat etc? I thought they were only supposed to have veggies/plants since they're herbivores
Can guinea pigs eat unbaked oatmeal? - Yahoo! Answers

is there any truth at all to this?

No. Guinea pigs are STRICTLY herbivores. Not meat, or dairy products should be consumed.

No, they can not eat dairy products at all. Guinea pigs are lactose intolerant. Even when baby guinea pigs lose their mothers, they should not be given milk. They can only have one type of milk, and that's their mothers.

As for meat, another no. To be honest, I wouldn't take that list seriously at all. It's someone who thinks they know what they are talking about when they don't. Here is a link to a fantastic nutrition chart and thread - [h=1]READ ME- Cavy Nutrition Charts & Poisonous Plants List[/h]

You're right. This person is giving out incorrect information. Guinea pigs are herbivores. No meat, nuts/seeds, oats, dairy, etc.

Guinea Pigs nope, shouldn't do it, not good for them. That person who wrote that is all wrong. Rats, on the other hand can eat almost anything we do, maybe they were confused.

As far as I'm concerned, Yahoo! Answers is the worst website on the planet. It's the blind leading the blind, and I distrust almost everything I read there.

Pigs are herbivores, meaning their diet should consist only of plants. No meat.

NEVER! Don't trust Yahoo answers, because sadly,a lot of these people don't really know what is correct. I would stick to the forums. :) Good luck!

Some people say oats are fine, others not. In very small quantities, they don't appear to hurt pigs. The danger is that since the pig is eating them dry, they may eat too many, and then when they drink water, the oats swell in the stomach and cause a blockage.
