When i thought Coco was preggo i bought a nesting box, turned out she wasnt and now i have a nestbox that i cant use. Can i rip up the AJC and put in the nest box for her to "dig" in, or is it not safe?
Thank You For Answering! :)

I don't know what AJC is, but yes, you can use newspaper if you want the cage and the pig to stink horribly. And just for the record, guinea pigs don't need or use nesting boxes. They're not large hamsters.

While guinea pigs don't need nesting boxes, some pigs enjoy burrowing.
I've made a "burrowing box" for one of my girls and she's the only one that will use it. It's basically a box filled with fleece strips, and a homemade fleece pad at the bottom (fleece with towels in the middle). I can easily wash the fleece strips in the washing machine in a regular washing bag twice a week.

I wouldn't use newspaper as it's not absorbent, and will get both the cage and pig wet & smelly.

I am using newspapers on the bottom of the cage, and on top of it I use wood shavings. They don't stink at all, as a matter of fact they and the entire room smell wonderfully, like aspen shavings. It is easier for me at cleaning time, to just lift everything with the newspapers and dispose of everything this way. I wouldn't try plain newspaper.

Ah, I just realized that this is under the rabbit section. :) Rabbits are a bit more likely to enjoy burrowing, but I still recommend using fleece strips with something absorbent at the bottom.

Oh, then just ignore my posting. ;)

I agree with you sfrangu, I use newspapers under fleece and it works perfectly, doesn't stink at all :)

It might stink without anything on top of it though. :)
