She got it at something called "pet supplies plus". It's a small chain here in NY I don't know where else they would be located. I also don't know if it is any good for the pigs. If anyone reading this thread has some thoughts on the matter I would appreciate it =]

Also, while my pigs did actually have a bad case if lice once, all piggies get itches. If they are constantly and violently itching, I'd say it would be worth checking out. But think of how many itches you get throughout the day. I would think piggies get just as many. I made the mistake of thinking they still had lice after the vet told me they had been cleared, all because I still saw them itching a bit. I paid $30 to go back to the vet and be told that they are just itching their normal everyday itches.
Oh poop, the stores only exist in US. I saw a foam product when i was picking him up at SPCA and it looks very easy to use. No water needed, just massage on and wipe off. Too bad I forgot to ask them where did they get it from. I just assumed that its in most of the petstores. It feels like Snowball is just doing his normal scratches. Doesn't seem like he's scratching very little, but also doesn't seem like he's doing constant and violent scratches. If the vet ask for $30 just to check for lice, then how much would it be to get the vet to clean the anal sac?

Sorry it is fleas I was thinking of! I get them confused sometimes. However, just for the record you can't catch lice from your guinea pigs. You can only carry and spread them to other guinea pigs on your clothes and such.

Around here $30 is usually for the initial visit. Be prepared, if your piggy does have fleas, to pay for the treatment of the fleas as well.

Cleaning the anal sac is something you need to figure out how to do just like everything else. I am sure the vet would show you how very quickly if you asked as part of the $30 if he or she is anything like any of the vets I have ever been to.

So, basically, you want to treat for fleas, not lice, if you think that could be the cause for the dirt and itching. I apologize for telling you the wrong thing.

I would actually suggest maybe using a flea comb to check if you didn't want to wait.

If your piggy is itching a lot treating with revolution probably wouldn't be a bad idea based on what I have read which would take care of mites, lice or fleas. I would have your vet do it though because you have to be very careful with dosage based on weight.

Something just doesn't seem right/normal about the whole dirty back thing. Mine will get all sorts of junk in their fur on their back but it is always gone within the hour if it isn't sticky. Normally they are able to clean themselves (mine even clean stuff off their backs).

Maybe mine are just really clean though? I don't know.

Is baby oil okay for guinea pigs? If not I'll have to go buy so mineral oil.
Most baby oils are mineral oil but commonly contain fragrances as well, which are quite harsh and may cause some irritation of the skin.

They have that store here in South Florida, too.
Twix loved to sit in her own poo. Then I started sweeping her cage more often and taking her out of the cage to run most of the day. xD
