General Can guinea pigs get food stuck in there throats from eating too fast and not chewing

I noticed yesterday that Olivia sounded like she was trying to cough something up during the evening vegetables and then she seemed fine and would eat some more and then do it again. I did see her eventually cough up what looked like a piece of yellow pepper so I assume she didn't chew it up good enough before swallowing it. She seemed fine after that and haven't heard her do that since.

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

No I haven't but I wouldn't doubt it. Mine seem to inhale their veggies.

Happens to mine all the time, happened with my previous boars too. It always terrifies me because how the heck do you do a heimlich on a little piggy?! But either way, they always come out of it fine.

Haha, guess I've got pretty accident prone pigs! I would love to find out how you'd help a choking pig though. I thought Minnie was a couple of days ago and I freaked out.

Good question. I try to make sure that everything is cut up especially the peppers in small enough parts so they don't get ahold of a large piece and just swallow it.

Ferb started choking on his daily C tab once, he managed to gag it up and re-chew it though. Once in a post someone mentioned flipping their piggie head down and tapping them on the back. Not sure that would actually work or be safe though?
